Just a few things that caught my eye:
- I've always loved prime numbers. I think 17 is my new favorite number. I think both teams were in shock; I know I was. What a crazy turn of events ... but I'll take it!
- Was the first period the best hockey Corey Crawford has ever played? If not, it's pretty darn close. Well done. But he still shouldn't get a job with Team Canada for the coming Olympics.
- For a moment there, I thought Tuukka Rask was going to pull a Providence rant after Dave Bolland scored. There were stink eyes thrown at his teammates and a momentary flash of the 2009 Tuukka in his eyes. He has an explosive temper (to say the least).
- Great hockey, foul mouths. This was a postseason of on-air profanity during interviews and tonight it was CBC's Scott Oake's turn. David Bolland dropped an f-bomb and Oake didn't flinch. Such is the peril of live TV, I guess.
- Milan Lucic stepped it up large this series. But four goals and 34 hits just weren't enough. Not with an injured Patrice Bergeron and Gregory Campbell out with a busted leg.
- Marian Hossa has a disc problem in his back; he says he can barely skate on his right foot. I'd take him on one foot any day.
- WTF happened to Nick Leddy's game? He skated 3:25 during Game 6. Is his game really that bad?
- I wonder where Johnny Oduya's 15 fake-bearded buddies from Stockholm were celebrating the win. Those bad black fros are something else, though.
- Jonathan Toews sure didn't miss a beat, did he? That pass to Bryan Bickell was sublime.
- Speaking of Bickell -- his nine goals this postseason matched his total from the regular season. His picture should be added to the Wikipedia listing for 'lightning in a bottle."
- You have to respect Patrice Bergeron. He had a broken rib and torn cartilage coming into the game, and then he suffered a separated shoulder in tonight's game. Compare that to basketball players who can't play because of a hangnail. Yah, it's why I love hockey, too.
- Patrick Kane was a worthy Conn Smythe winner. But I wouldn't have been upset by a Corey Crawford win. Or Jonathan Toews, either. Even Bryan Bickell probably got a little consideration.
- There are a lot of beards being shaved off in Boston as I write this. But what an awesome cause. Male Bostonites grew beards to raise money for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing and they kept them growing as long as the Bruins were in the playoffs. Great cause; great community.
