AL LABR Squad

The AL LABR auction took place at the Arizona Republic headquarters in Phoenix Saturday night. It's a 12-team AL-only 5 x 5 league. Here are the results. My squad is below:

PosPlayer$Comment
CJoe Mauer19Targeting batting average - thought he would go low-20s
CVictor Martinez19See Mauer above - too cheap
1BJustin Morneau18More than I though he'd cost, but see him as the pre-injury version now
2BJurikson Profar 9Was willing to go to 9, many avenues to playing time
3BPedro Ciriaco2Last player bought - upset Scott Sizemore went for 3
SSDerek Jeter17Good price, but almost got him for 15 which would have been a steal
CIPaul Konerko19Not a target, but too much value here
MIJed Lowrie11Value buy - expect him to see 450 productive at-bats
OFWill Myers8No real obstacles to playing time if he's ready
OFJosh Reddick17Pure value buy - no interest in him but thought he'd be low 20s
OFMichael Saunders15Thought it was value at the time, but regret this given how it affected rest of draft
OFLorenzo Cain15Needed speed, thought the price was right
OFJarrod Dyson7Speed and Cain insurance
UDavid Ortiz16Price enforce and power buy. If he plays in April and stays healthy, should earn $20-$25 easily
PC.C. Sabathia22Good bargain for a rock-solid SP
PJake Peavy13Thought he'd be $17-$18 at least
PMariano Rivera18Full price, but can't lose the job unless he gets hurt
PPhil Hughes4Peripherals were great besides HR, and Yanks OF defense got a lot better
PBrian Matusz3Bullpen dominance might give him confidence to start
PZach Britton2In the mix to start and ground-ball skills a good fit for AL East
PMiguel Gonzalez2Very steady down the stretch - in the mix
PJunichi Tazawa2Elite peripherals, Hanrahan is shaky, Bailey injury prone
PJared Burton2Back-up closer in MIN
RZach McAllisterRPeripherals pretty solid except for home runs; should get better
RJames PaxtonRGood prospect, could see rotation at any point
RBrad LincolnRGood pedigree, could start - maybe even close at some point
RRoberto HernandezRIf the Rays can fix Rodney, why not TAFKA Fausto Carmona
RJohn ElyRGreat AAA peripherals, could easily carve out a role with Astros
RNate FreimanRGood high-minors numbers, and Astros lineup a free-for-all
