Trent Richardson is expected to play the whole game if he's cleared for Week 1.
Richardson was back at practice Saturday riding a bike on the sidelines. While this is good news for owners and he appears to be in line to play next week, keep in mind he likely won't see a heavy workload. If you own him you're obviously going to start him, just temper any lofty expectations.
Kellen Winslow was released by the Seattle Seahawks.
This appears to be a combination of a player already on the decline due to health issues with someone who thinks they're still worth over $3 million a year. It's hard to imagine Winslow getting picked up by another team for that price but stranger things have happened. Zach Miller, who had success with the Raiders before signing with Seattle last season, can be seen as a bye-week replacement. Evan Moore, who was released by the Browns signed with Seattle to backup Miller.
Greg Salas was traded to the New England Patriots for a conditional draft pick.
After releasing Deion Branch and Jabar Gaffney, New England needed a little depth for their receiving corps. Salas is reunited with OC Josh McDaniels who coached him in St. Louis. Salas is an injury or two away from potentially becoming fantasy relevant.
Jason Witten returned to practice Saturday.
This bodes well for his chances to play in Wednesday's opener against the Giants but it's hard to imagine him having too much of an impact considering he hasn't practiced or played since the preseason opener. Provided there aren't any setbacks, look Witten to regain his old form within a few weeks.
Mike Shanahan has a secret and we'd like to know what it is.
Shanahan has indicated he knows who will be his Week 1 starter but for now he's isn't going to tell anybody. For all we know the Redskins could bring in Quentin Griffin and suit him up against New Orleans. With the release of Tim Hightower the backfield became slightly less muddied to help the situation. I don't have a firm grasp on who I think will be the starter but I'd guess it's not going to be Evan Royster. Roy Helu went off in the final preseason game and Alfred Morris was held out (as are most starters) so I'd lean towards one of those two. Any thoughts here?
