Saturday's happenings:
Andre Johnson will return to practice Monday. We've said all along that we thought the groin injury was minor, but, at 31, it shows that Johnson is not the model of health. He has the potential to be a top-3 wide receiver when he's on the field. The "when he's on the field" part is why his current ADP is 32.
Donnie Avery could play a role in the Indianapolis offense this season. Avery appears to be healthy and could be the deep threat in Bruce Arians' offense. Of course, the Colts didn't spend a third-round pick on T.Y. Hilton to have him ride the pine, so both players should get a long look this preseason.
Fred Jackson sustained an ankle injury and sat out practice Saturday. The injury doesn't sound serious for the running back who is going around pick 30 in fantasy drafts. Jackson is expected to carry most of the load in the Bills backfield, occasionally giving way to C.J. Spiller.
Santonio Holmes suffered a rib injury, but did not break any ribs. It was first reported that he broke a rib, but x-rays confirmed he did not. The extent of the injury is unknown, and he'll likely sit out the next few days.
Chris Gocong suffered a season-ending Achilles' tear. A blow to the Browns defense that was ranked 10th last season. James-Michael Johnson or Kaluka Maiava will have the opportunity to be a starting linebacker in Cleveland.
Phillip Tanner will have surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand. The Cowboys hoping he's back within a couple of weeks. The bigger news is that Dallas will get a good look at Lance Dunbar. If you're looking for a very deep sleeper (h/t Mario Puig), keep an eye on Dunbar.
Jabar Gaffney returned to practice for the Patriots. With all of the hype the Brandon Lloyd signing brought, Gaffney jumping to the Patriots has been lost in the shuffle. Gaffney is coming off a career year where he caught 68 passes for 947 yards and five touchdowns. While he's not expected to be targeted heavily, an injury or two could place him in a spot to become fantasy relevant.
Michael Crabtree (calf) is expected to return to practice this week. Answer: A football field. Question: Where won't you find Michael Crabtree in August?
Brent Celek returned to practice Saturday. Good news and proof the knee injury was not significant. While he could miss the Eagles' first preseason game, he should be fine for the start of the season.
