Memorial Day Weekend Plays

Another rough night, but I'm still playing with the house's money… season record of 13-8 +$458. I won't be making wagers tomorrow or Monday but, as we all head out for the three-day weekend that signifies the unofficial start of summer, let us take a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could enjoy our freedom.


Take a break from the picnics and barbeques to celebrate what others so selflessly defended for our sake.

Recall the words Abraham Lincoln delivered in Gettysburg, "that these dead shall not have died in vain – that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom – and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."


Do not forget that freedom continues to come at the highest price, and that we are still involved in many conflicts around the world.


Never take our freedom for granted.



Now for today's wagers:


Indians +151 over White Sox
Bet $100
I anticipate a low scoring affair with Derek Lowe (6-2, 2.15) facing Jake Peavy (5-1, 2.39). The Indians are 8-3 in their last 11 games and have had great success against right-handed pitchers (8-2 in their last 10 against righties; 10-3 in their last 13 road games against righties). In particular, Shin-Soo Choo and Travis Hafner have hit Peavy well (7 for 25, 2 home runs, 4 extra base hits). Meanwhile, as good as Peavy has pitched, the Sox are 3-8 in his last 11 home starts, and some of their biggest bats have been a bust against Lowe, with Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko and Alex Rios combining to go 8-59 (.136). At +151 the tribe is too attractive a wager to pass up.


Giants +104 over Marlins
Bet $100
It is tough to bet against the Giants with Madison Bumgarner (5-3, 2.85) on the hill. He gave up just one earned run in his last start, striking out a season-high 10 batters, and the Giants are 12-4 in his last 16 starts. They'll be facing Mark Buehrle (4-4, 3.36), who the Giants hitters seem to own, batting .348 against him.  Melky Cabrera, who is hitting .487 with seven RBIs in his last nine games, is batting .630 (17 for 27) with two home runs against Buehrle. The Giants are 6-2 in the last eight meetings in Miami, and 5-2 in their last seven road games.
