Just a few things that caught my eye:
- Remind me again why Tyler Seguin was a healthy scratch in the first two rounds of the playoffs? That second period breakaway goal was one of the nicest of the postseason.
- Welcome to the 80s. I thought I was watching one of those vintage barnburners from the glory days of offensive hockey. The coaches hated it. But every one else LOVED it.
- Back to Seguin. Nice timing -- his new Under Armour commercial debuted on Canada's TSN during the game. In it, the teenager proclaimed, "I will." And he did. There will be a day when we look back on this game and remember it as the rocket launch.
- Tim Thomas -- bad goals, great saves. Then more bad goals. And more great saves. Classic Tiny Tim. He'll be better. He has to be.
- Vincent Lecavalier was sublime. He drank the Yzerman Kool-Aid and it shows. He has gone from a great offensive player to a phenomenal all-round center. A little like Stevie Y himself... BTW there's a guy in the West who's doing the very same thing. Yup. Jumbo Joe Thornton.
- Now that's the Tomas Kaberle the Bruins thought they were getting. The B's were two-for-five on the PP with Kabby setting up both. Took him long enough. It still won't buy him a new contract in Beantown, though.
- Steven Stamkos and Tyler Seguin -- the future of hockey in the East is very, very bright.
- Mattias Ohlund discovered what it felt like to be hit by a Recchin ball. He might have had Mark Recchi lined up for that third-period hit but the old man ran him down like a Mack truck. He's still got it. And Ohlund has the road rash to prove it.
- Nine points and 23 PIMs in his last seven games. So, you think Nathan Horton has finally found his groove?
- Seguin may have been the best Bruin on the ice but my nod for number two is Rich Peverley. He won 78.9 percent (15 of 19) of his faceoffs. He's not Patrice Bergeron but he gave the Bruins just what they needed in PB's absence.
- Speaking of Bergeron -- his head must be doing much better. He sat in a luxury box with Marc Savard and endured the antics of two sugar-addled little boys dressed in foam bear heads and waving foam claws. And screaming. That alone could have caused a setback.
- The Lightning's third-period press was nothing short of Globetrotter at times. I could watch that all night long. And here I thought the Canucks-Sharks game would be more entertaining. Puh-shaw.
- Nice to see Manny Malhotra not only with the team but practicing in full equipment. Eric Cole came back from a broken neck when Carolina won the Cup. Do you think we might see the same thing with Manny?
