I don't think ESPN, the Baseball Network and everybody else televising baseball games could have asked for more drama on opening day. For me, it brought some nighmares and some joy. I'm just glad that every game counts. This could be a great season from game 1 to game 162.

I always neglect Jeremy Guthrie when I put my fantasy teams together. He won 11 games last year with an ERA of 3.83 and a WHIP of 1.16 on a bad team. The team still isn;t great but they're improved. Guthrie seems to provide quality starts, but he doesn't strike anyone out and his team isn't likely to win many games against the AL East-their most common opponents. But Guthrie is someone to look for on the waiver wire in the event you have starter issues. I found him on the wire in two of my leagues tonight. Again, no K's but some good other categories.

I certainly wouldn't panic about John Lester, Justin Verlander, CC, Carl Pavano or anyone else who had some hiccups in their first starts. However, I remain concerned about John Axford. I'm not sure about him.

J.J. Putz has an awesome change-up that he threw over and over to Cargo. On the last pitch of the at-bat Putz went to the change once to often. He got it up in the zone and Carlos got a big base hit. Putz can be a shut down closer if his back holds up.

How awesome did Clayton Kershaw look last night? Remember, he had the opportunity to have been tutored by Sandy Koufax. Just being around Koufax has made Kershaw a much better pitcher. It's all about command for the big lefty. Last night he threw any pitch on any count. He was just a little better than Tim Lincecum. It was a great game.

I look for Ivan DeJesus to get plenty of playing time with the Dodgers. DeJesus can play second and short with good range and a strong arm. I'm not sure he'll hit right away, but I see him getting some at-bats.

Unless your my age you don't remember Yogi Berra swinging at the same type of awful pitches that the Panda and Vladdy make their living on. However, last night was the ultimate for Sandoval. He literally swung at a pitch that was at the laces of his shoes and got a base hit. My little league coach would have screamed at me if I had done that.

Brandon Belt can certainly play defense at 1B. What happens when Cody Ross returns? Someone has to go on the disabled list in true Giants style.

How many homers this year for Adam Dunn? I don't know, but what a great signing that was for Chicago. They had the Indians down by a couple of touchdowns in the first half. Look up the word "mess" in the dictionary. What appears? The Indians starting pitching.

The Reds comeback yesterday was beyond exciting. It was incredible. Beside the fact that Votto, Hernandez, Stubbs, etc. were great with the bats, the pen did an outstanding job.

Willie Bloomquist played SS for the Diamondbacks today because they don't have a legitimate back-up to Stephen Drew on their roster. It almost cam back to bite them when Bloomquist couldn't reach an easy ground ball to the left of second base late in the game. How can you enter a season without a legit back-up SS?

Davey Lopes will have the Dodgers running. He has said that even C Rod Barajas will attempt to steal bases. I look for Matt Kemp to run any chance he gets. He wants to redeem himself from last year.

The Yankees won their game with no contribution from Robinson Cano.

No, I don't think Albert's contract had any influence on him hitting into 3 double-plays. I do think he's Albert Pujols and he'll have a fantastic year.
Give some credit to the Padres pitchers. They got him out when they had to.

Tremendous performance from Jared Weaver. And we still don't hear much about him. He just gets the job done without much fanfare. I still worry about the Angels lack of run production.

Somebody asked this the other day-Ogando or Beachy? Your thoughts? I'd say Beachy because he's done it in the rotation before.

More homers so far than I expected. And here I thought that guys couldn't hit the ball out without the help of flax seed oil. There have been some gigantic home runs. By the way-will Barry Bonds be found guilty or innocent? I'm just askin'.

I remember watching Brandon Lyon night after night here in Phoenix. There are times when he was "light's out." More often he turned the lights out when the other team walked off the field with a W. Didn't the Astros lose game after game in the 8th and 9th innings last year, too?

Carlos Santana is going to be some kind of hitter. And he's a switch hitter to boot. The ball just makes a different kind of sound coming off his bat.

If Carlos Quentin stays hot for any amount of time the White Sox can be very tough to beat.

I hope Jim Leyland doesn't smoke his lungs out watching his bullpen implode this year. Two problems with the Tigers. After their thunder of Ordonez, Cabrera and VMart, what's next? And after their starters depart in the 6th, then what? To close the gap with the White Sox, the Tigers need one more bat and one more arm. They may have the bat in Casper Wells or Brennan Boesch. But what about the bullpen arm? Ryan Raburn is also a bit under the radar.

Brian Matusz is now on the DL and Zach Britton is a major leaguer. Matusz could be out for a while (maybe 5 or more weeks.) Britton will pitch on Sunday according to reports.
