What to Watch: Week 12 in College Football (Part I)

Thursday

8:00 PM ET ESPN: UCLA 4-5 @ Washington 3-6 (-2.5) - The Bruins need two more wins to get bowl eligible.  Sophomore QB Richard Brehaut has thrown 2 TDs in the six games he's appeared in, so they'll need to rely on their 27th ranked rushing attack to move the ball.  Helping matters is the fact that the Huskies have allowed 263.7 ypg rushing over their last three games.  Washington senior QB Jake Locker (ribs) has been cleared to play in this game.  His presence has been missed as the Huskies generated 370 yards of total offense in their last two games combined without him.  The Bruins have won 11 of the last 13 in this series.

Bruins Offense: 315.2 ypg (101st) , 4.8 yards/play (104th), & 35.8|PERCENT| 3rd Down (94th)

Huskies Defense: 440.0 ypg (109th), 6.2 yards/play (103rd), & 46.3|PERCENT| comp. (105th)

Friday

9:30 PM ET ESPN2: Fresno State 6-3 @ #4 Boise State 9-0 (-30.5) - TCU's 40-35 win over San Diego State last week showed how important style points can be for a non-AQ school trying to break through.  Because they didn't win by enough points the Horned Frogs were passed by Boise State in the coaches poll and the AP poll.  If Boise State can take care of business from here on out, they should pass TCU in the BCS standings too.  That means that Boise State needs to crush Fresno State.  That may prove slightly difficult as the Bulldogs have been on an offensive hot-streak over their last four games.  In those games, they've averaged almost 240 yards rushing and senior QB Ryan Colburn has a 6/1 TD/INT ratio.  Boise State has one of the best defenses in the nation, so this should be a decent match-up.  Defensively the Bulldogs don't do much well, which will be a serious problem going up against junior QB Kellen Moore.  Moore is 1st in QB efficiency rating (191.15), 1st in yards per attempt (10.7), 3rd in completion percentage (71.9|PERCENT|), and 7th in passing yards per game (287.6).  If it weren't for Cam Newton, Moore would be the front-runner for the Heisman trophy right now.  Expect Boise State to play like a team that knows it's being watched by voters.  The Broncos have won 8 of the last 9 in this series.

Bulldogs Offense: 399.6 ypg (51st), 6.0 yards/play (33rd), & 36.1|PERCENT| 3rd Down (92nd)

Run: 180.3 ypg (35th), 4.50 yards/carry (43rd), & 18 TDs

Broncos Defense: 240.8 ypg (3rd), 3.8 yards/play (1st), & 28.2|PERCENT| comp. (3rd)
Pass: 165.9 ypg (10th), 5.5 ypa (4th), 55.5|PERCENT| comp. (29th), 7 TDs, & 9 INTs
Run: 74.9 ypg (2nd), 2.23 yards/carry (1st), & 7 TDs

Broncos Offense: 530.2 ypg (4th), 7.7 yards/play (1st), & 46.6|PERCENT| 3rd Down (24th)
