Monday Morning Thoughts

-My Buffalo Bills are in first place (or tied) to get Ryan Mallett. At least I hope they'll pony up the money to do so, which cheapo Ralph Wilson might not do. It's been explained to me that basically the Wilson family will wait to move the team until Ralph dies. Then he can leave it to his kids to move the team without any tax implications. Please trade Marshawn Lynch, for whatever draft pick you can get for him. He's got to be an upgrade over John Kuhn, Brandon Jackson, Correll Buckhalter or Laurence Maroney..

-How much better did Ryan Torain look over Clinton Portis? Is it shocking to hear Portis is injured?

-Sam Bradford might be good. I'm not sure I can think of any other player in the league I'd rather have to build my team around if I was starting from scratch.

-To Arian Foster, please don't miss any meetings. I think you got the message, at least I hope.

-Dustin Keller got three targets inside the five. He scored on two was held on another that wasn't called. Is he not the #1 receiver in NY, even when Holmes comes back?

--If you go back to this week's staff picks column, I pointed out I thought both the Giants and Jaguars games were traps and they've proved to be just that. This isn't a back door brag, I'm going through the front door on this one.

-Speaking of targets in the red zone, Lance Moore's number was called on multiple times even after he fumbled at the goal line. The NO wide receivers are a gamble week in and week out but Moore could end up the most consistent receiver. Why? Robert Meachem and Marques Colston are both 6'3" or bigger; Moore at 5' 9" and 180 lbs. is more of an elusive receiver with a lot of quickness. Think of him as Wes Welker in this system.

-You can throw to Calvin Johnson even if he's in double coverage in the end zone. He's 6'5" and has an even bigger advantage with his long arms. The Lions would have won that game had Shaun Hill not had difficulty handing the ball off to his running backs. I'd rate the Lions as the best 0-4 team and this is coming from someone who was high on the 49ers.

-How good are the Broncos? Kyle Orton now has the Bronco record for the most passing yards for a QB through four games. Don't forget they're missing Elvis Dumervil and (tragically) Darrent Williams who was developing into an elite corner.

-I'm starting to think Cincinnati isn't that good. Palmer's numbers vs. Seneca Wallace were just as weird as Shaun Hill's vs. Aaron Rodgers and they both lost.

-Going forward, you want LaDainian Tomlinson or Shonn Greene? This was a very different answer during the preseason.

-I'm sick of annoucers saying "the defense more than anyone practices fighting for fumbles, interceptions, etc.". I'm pretty sure every team practices acquiring turnovers.

-In last week's live blog, I stated I didn't think Cutler was going to make it until halftime the way the Cowboys were getting to him. Well, this week he didn't. The irony was his concussion appeared to be from getting sacked by the smallest guy he was sacked by on the night. If you're a Cutler owner, I feel you pain being heavily invested in him and lost basically a head-to-head matchup against Jimmy Clausen. To make matters worse, I had to be reminded of years of quarterback misery here in Buffalo when Todd Collins entered the game. Getting back to the Bears, their offensive line is terrible to say the least and note to Mike Martz: Greg Olsen cannot block.

-Bonehead play by Nate Clements not protecting the ball, which eventually cost his team the game. If you're a defender, protecting is more important than advancing.

-Pierre Garcon will be back soon, I'd sell high on Austin Collie now.

-The announcer during the SD/ARI game said something to the effect of "what is Matt Leinart thinking now?" after a Derek Anderson interception. I was thinking "how bad is Matt Leinart that he was benched in favor of Derek Anderson?" Make Legedu Naanee or Malcolm Floyd beat your team as I think Antonio Gates has shown time and time again he can. How he was wide open the whole game is beyond me.

-Boring day for Survivor unless someone took Indy.

-Where do you rank Larry Fitzgerald, Ryan Mathews, Kyle Orton and Ray Rice going forward?

-I think we're now seeing why New England had no problem parting ways with Laurence Maroney (11 carries, 5 yards). This was after getting stuffed multiple times at the goal line last week.

-Too many run plays called on 3rd and 2 or greater yesterday. I don't think I saw a single one converted.

-I'd feel really good about tonight if I own any Dolphins going up against a very weak New England defense.
