Yao Ming: Impressive in Scrimmage. Though the plan remains to limit Yao to 24 minutes per contest once the regular season begins, early signs are that the Houston center is actually performing more ably than originally anticipated. Houston Coach Rick Adelman, impressed by Yao's early training camp performance, told the Houston Chronicle that, in the coming days, he'd like to rest Yao one day in order to play him longer the next.
Roy Hibbert: Increased Usage? Pacer Coach Jim O'Brien has suggested that he might run more of the offense through big man Roy Hibbert. Obviously, if this plays out, it'll be good for Hibbert's production. Of course, it's not really Hibbert's production that's been the problem; his per-minute stats are actually pretty good. Rather, the problem has been avoiding foul trouble. Though it may not seem like it, he actually improved in this area last year. Still, it's something to consider when evaluating him for fantasy purposes.
Mehmet Okur: Achilles "at 70 Percent." Okur, who ruptured his Achilles during last year's playoff series versus Denver, had successful surgery not long after and has been rehabbing since. Although the actual tendon has healed, he still can't jump off that foot or run at full speed -- which, those are pretty important things in basketball, even for Mehmet Okur. There's currently no timetable for his return, which likely means ample playing time for big men Paul Millsap and newcomer Al Jefferson.
Baron Davis: Leg Problems. Apparently, beyond the concerns about his weight, the Clipper point guard is suffering from swelling in his knee and a strained calf. It's probably no big deal, though: even if he played in a wheelchair, Davis would likely see fit to attempt, like, seven three-pointers per game.
Kevin Love: Knee Concerns. The Best Outlet Passer Since Wes Unseld left Minnesota's training camp in Mankato to return to the Twin Cities for an MRI on his swollen right knee. On the one hand, it could be something to watch for; on the other, it might just have been an excuse to leave Mankato.
Corey Maggette: Will Miss All of Preseason. Maggette underwent surgery for torn peroneal tendons in July and may miss the entire preseason. In the event that you're unaware, peroneal tendons are near your ankle. In the event that you're also unaware, YOU SHOULD NOT DO AN IMAGE SEARCH FOR "PERONEAL TENDONS." Seriously, it's gross. In any case, here's the upshot: Maggette's unlikely to play this preseason, which means Carlos Delfino is likely to start at small forward for the Bucks' home opener.
