-I touted Arian Foster in my "random notes" a few weeks back. Needless to say he was awesome today. I also talked up Mike Sims-Walker, so maybe I'm at a wash when considering both. I'd target Sims-Walker this week in trade talks this week as he'll be much better going forward and comes at a nice buy-low price.
-Why wasn't Jerome Harrison used more today? Peyton Hillis, really? He fumbled twice and last I checked Mangenius gave Harrison a vote of confidence. I was all-aboard the Montario Hardesty train/Kool-Aid mix until his injury. However, I really thought they would give Harrison an honest shot at the starting role. That being said, I love to look at past college teammates: Marion Barber/Lawrence Maroney at Minnesota, and Felix Jones/Darren McFadden/Peyton Hillis at Arkansas, to name a few. Don't forget Cedric Benson, Ricky Williams and Jamaal Charles all went to Texas. Are we done with Bill Belichick's disciples being great (see Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis)?
-Chad Henne was on my radar as a break-through candidate and did nothing to help that belief. He constantly looked at short routes and underthrew Brandon Marshall on a sure TD catch. They still ran the Wildcat and Brandon Marshall was fully blocking earning the money on his contract. Hence, I'd roll with Matt Cassel instead going forward.
-I don't follow college football as much as a bunch of other sports, but I'd put up money on the Florida Gators losing at least two games, including the bowl games. They've been slow starters and it's not like they've been playing great teams. If you're backing them, you've forgotten they've lost Brandon Spikes, Tim Tebow and Aaron Hernandez.
- My hometown Buffalo Bills will be bad, bad, bad. Remember this when considering your Survivor picks going forward.
-Considering when he was drafted among fantasy circles that Jay Cutler will make a lot of mistakes but a lot of his owners very happy at the same time. Ditto for Matt Forte, especially in PPR leagues. Didn't I also recommend Robbie Gould, who should have had a better than his seven-point day?
-Brandon Jackson will be a hot waiver-wire pickup this week as will Brandon Lloyd and Mark Clayton. Don't be afraid to be aggressive early on with money bids when you think back to what Pierre Garcon did last year.
-Michael Turner and Andre Johnson had bad days. Target them heavily in trade talks this week as their production will improve.
-It's a great time to target players who were invisible this first week via trade but even better is to do another public league draft. Use the cheat sheets here with confidence; one week is such a small sample size yet most will use it as a true barometer when picking. (think 2009 Chris Johnson, see Week 1).
-Does anyone else remember the irony of trading Clinton Portis for Champ Bailey? Always get the shutdown corner; the running back position will always be fungible. It's nice to see the late games where they show the cheerleaders without repercussions.
-Jason Campbell is bad, very bad. The sooner they turn to Bruce Gradkowski, maybe the better. Don't forget about Michael Bush, he'll be back.
-Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps will be a stinker. It's over a decade late and no one will care. Just my unsolicited, unbiased opinion.
-I couldn't have been more disappointed in the San Francisco 49ers defense. They got a softball over the middle of the plate and couldn't do anything in Seattle. Blindly, I'd fade Seattle next week but look for San Fran to bounce back.
-Minnesota and New Orleans will have some extra time to prepare for Week 2. AP and Robert Meachem will have much better days,
-Again, Miles Austin will be great. Wait, a 20-yard catch is called back. Look back at last season and erase the first four weeks. 11 seconds left, Austin makes a great grab. Great googly moogily, Miles will be great this year. Don't doubt it.
-Is it surprising that I hold Cadillac Williams and Clinton Portis in the same breath? Both broken-down RBs who have little upside.
-Given the concussion, do the Eagles wish they still had McNabb? Might this be a blessing for Michael Vick? He's in a better situation than in Atlanta and could be a nice fantasy surprise if you can put him into your lineup with the dog out of the room.
-I know I haven't been the only one I've read about Dez Bryant and his controversy. But the guy (Bryant) was suspended last collegiate year for inappropriate contact with an agent and/or Deion Sanders. Low and behold, Bryant ends up in Dallas, the last place Sanders called home. Bryant sucked tonight, for the record.
