Training Camp Notes

You might have heard something about Brett Favre today. Nothing official was announced but multiple sources indicate Favre will return for another season. Give the receiving corps (especially Visanthe Shiancoe) a bump on your cheat sheets. His press conference Wednesday will likely generate more attention than say, a war or an environmental disaster.

Tony Gonzalez says there's a 50-50 chance he retires next year. Outside of some type of significant injury or the Falcons winning the Super Bowl, I'd be shocked if that happens. He's durable and will only be 35 next year. If you're targeting him in keeper leagues, be sure to bring up this info before your draft.

Tom Brady says he feels completely healthy, a note I'd normally ignore. However, he's now over a year removed from knee surgery and after a quick exit from the playoffs should be playing with a chip on his shoulder. Remember the Patriots don't have a strong defense and even if they're blowing out teams they don't have a problem running up the score. Don't be surprised if Brady ends up as a top-2 fantasy QB by year's end.

Eli Manning downplayed the laceration to his head he suffered on Monday night. Manning owners and GMen fans alike should be happy to hear that x-rays were negative and there was no sign of a concussion.

Marshawn Lynch's ankle injury isn't as bad as first expected and he should be fine for Week 1. C.J. Spiller and Lynch could be in a timeshare at that time, which would be a nice place for Lynch to audition for other teams.

Owen Daniels should be ready for Week 1, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. He was on a torrid pace last year before his knee injury. He's as big of a gamble as you'll find at tight end this year.

Todd Haley continues to screw with Jamaal Charles, saying his role is "to be determined". People (myself included) have been quick to point out that Haley did this with Dwayne Bowe last year but Dwayne Bowe wasn't competing with anyone legitimate for his #1 WR spot while Charles does have Thomas Jones to contend with.
