42 home runs yesterday. What a weekend for baseball.
Brandon Webb threw off the mound this week with a new arm angle. That may result in a quicker return to the Diamondbacks. When you hear of his return, proceed with caution. You know how I feel about shoulder injuries.
Carlos Santana is looking comfortable at the plate. He looked comfortable behind the plate as well.
Albert Pujols was struggling at the plate until he got two hits and drove in a couple runs on Sunday. It's tough to imagine Pujols struggling. There wasn't anything wrong with his mechanics. Pitchers made very good pitches against him.
Prince found his stroke, Joey Votto looks like he's locked in and Jorge Posada hit two grand slams in two days. Now, can we get Jason Bay going? Maybe he'll heat up when Carlos Beltran returns. Carlos Beltran. Remember him? It seems like an eternity since we've heard his name mentioned. Didn't we all say the Mets were the wrong team for Bay? If we knew that then? oh well, maybe he heats up.
What's wrong with Gordon Beckham? I have no idea. Sophomore jinx? He's disappointed lots of people, but mostly himself. By the way, I think it was a good move for him to try to bunt for a base hit when Ted Lilly was still pitching his no hitter. It was a close game and Beckham wanted to get on base. No criticism necessary.
Bruce Bochy has usually stuck to the same lineup night in and night out. But he's been moving Pablo Sandoval all over the place. I don't think it works well for the Panda.
Maybe Terry Francona has the right idea in giving VMart some days off and rotating his players. While I'd like to have Victor's stats day in and day out, I get it.
Great start for Michael Stanton.
I think the mound issues with Stephen Strasburg had more to do with David Huff and Strasburg landing in the same location than the mound being bad in Cleveland. That happens often. Strasburg was smart to have the grounds crew correct the situation. It could have resulted in a twisted ankle.
Could Washington be buyers at the trade deadline? How about the Padres? What a season. I never thought I'd be writing those words.
If Strasburg keeps this up, who do you like for the NL Cy, Ubaldo or Strasburg? Someone else? I'm just askin? I know it was against the Pirates and the Indians, but this is really something special to watch.
I know you may think I'm crazy, but at this early date my AL MVP is Robby Cano. Some very, very big hits. Who's yours?
Chris Carpenter did not look crisp on the mound yesterday. I'm really wondering if he's 100|PERCENT| healthy. Threw even more off speed than he usually does. Watch, his next start he'll be lights out. But he left a ton of pitches in the eyes of the hitters. My yellow light is blinking. I trust my yellow light.
Chad Qualls could lose his closer's role. Beware. Keep your eye on Aaron Heilman.
If Carlos Marmol makes me nuts, how do you think he makes Lou feel?
Speaking of closers, I firmly believe Max Scherzer should be a closer. He has a solid, one inning fastball and only mediocre secondary pitches.
I'm happy for Zack Grienke but it happened too late for me. I think the Royals could get a boatload for him if they dangle him to a major market contender. Picture him with Boston, Philly, or the Yankees. Rays can't afford him. For me the best fit is the Angels for a package that includes Howie Kendrick, Peter Bourjos and a pitcher. This is the time to trade Zack.
Double Bubble or Bazooka?
Later.
