Just a few things that caught my eye:
- Didn't Evgeni Malkin wake up about this time last season?
- To shave or not to shave? That was the question today as Roberto Luongo decided to trim the hairy beast. A little manscaping always makes a guy feel better about himself; it just didn't take off the tread marks left behind by the bus that coach Alain Vigneault tossed him under.
- Hawks-Canucks: it feels like Groundhog Day all over again.
- No Andrei Markov. No Jaroslav Spacek. And now, no Hal Gill. P.K. Subban has become the Habs' number two defender. Talk about trial by fire for a 20-year-old rookie... and the kid is walking on coals right now. Tres chaud!
- Maybe Vigneault is right. Of the 21 goalies who played 15 or more post-Olympics games, Bobby Lou was second-last in save percentage (.893). Yikes.
- No offense but you're in trouble when Kyle Wellwood is your best player.
- Just so you know -- I owned a Jonathan Toews home jersey before his five-point night Friday. And a Toews Team Canada jersey, too. I'm not obsessed. Honest I'm not.
- I have to admit I do like San Jose's 17-foot-high open shark mouth that descends from the rafters before each game. The flashing red eyes and fog are very Hollywood. Mind you, there's something mildly masochistic about it. Hey, maybe that's been the Sharks' problem all these years...
- Daniel Sedin had just 28 penalty minutes in 63 games in the regular season; he already has 10 in 10 this postseason. You think Dave Bolland has gotten into his head?
- Mark Recchi -- not bad for a 41-year-old, eh? He, Nicklas Lidstrom and Rob Blake are all playing like they're 10 years younger.
- Completely overlooked Friday night? Matt Carle and his four-assist, plus-5 performance including the set-up of the game winner.
- Best line of the night Saturday? Marc-Andre Fleury was all that and a Sham-WOW! He was.
