Usually, it's bad news when your player misses the first several weeks to a month of the season. But if you were initially worried after drafting Mauer and Hoffman, you're not anymore.
Hoffman amazingly has 10 saves, one off the major league lead. While he only has nine strikeouts (by contrast Heath Bell and Mariano Rivera have 22 and Jonathan Broxton has 32), Hoffman's 0.00 ERA and .27 WHIP in 11 innings makes up for a few Ks.
Mauer has 8 HR, 24 RBI and is batting .417. That ties him for the catcher-lead in home runs with Bengie Molina and is only six less RBI than Molina and the 400-hitting Victor Martinez who's been healthy all year. Mauer has done two months worth of damage in only three weeks, and his OPS was 1.244 before going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run in Thursday's game, i.e., he's got to be pushing 1.400 right now.
Both players will undoubtedly come back to earth - though what "earth" is for Mauer is hard to say - 24-115-125-.330 over a typical full season? And Hoffman is still one of the safest closers to own, even at 41-years old.
