Charlie Zegers' last post got me thinking - would the All-Star team of straight from high school players beat the All-Star team of college-attending ones? How about foreigners who don't fit into either category. Here's how I see the key rotation members:
Straight from High School
G Kobe Bryant
G Monta Ellis
F LeBron James
F Kevin Garnett
C Dwight Howard
B Amare Stoudemire
B Rashard Lewis
B Josh Smith
B Andrew Bynum
B Jermaine O'Neal
B Tyson Chandler
B Louis Williams
I Al Jefferson|STAR|
I Tracy McGrady|STAR|
College Draftees:
G Chris Paul
G Dwyane Wade
F Paul Pierce
F Tim Duncan
C Marcus Camby
B Deron Williams
B Brandon Roy
B Kevin Durant
B Chauncey Billups
B Joe Johnson
B Chris Bosh
B Ron Artest
Foreigners
G Jose Calderon
G Manu Ginobili
F Hedo Turkoglu
F Dirk Nowitzki
C Yao Ming
B Pau Gasol
B Tony Parker
B Steve Nash
B Andris Biedrins
B Peja Stojakovic
B Mehmet Okur
B Andrei Kirilenko
(Just missed the cut: Luis Scola, Andrea Bargnani, Nene, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Rudy Fernandez)
The teams are pretty balanced. The high schoolers lack a point guard, the college team lacks big men and the foreigners are well balanced, but they'd be a poor defensive team. I'd give a slight nod to the NBA team over the high schoolers, but it's close. The foreign team would be tougher if they played under the Olympic rules. We could always drop Joe Johnson or Ron Artest off the NBA squad and add Shaq to eliminate the size disadvantage, too.
