Believe it or not, Bud Selig made $18 million in 2007.
The reason this is shocking to me, both apart from the job Selig has actually done and that he just looks like a weaselly sycophant, is that I had somehow assumed being a professional sports commissioner was kind of like being president of the United States - that it was more about the importance of the job than the actual money.
I'm not sure why I thought this, and in fact the other sports commissioners are well paid: (Roger Goodell makes $11 M and David Stern $10 M). Maybe it's that the Commish isn't trying to win like an owner, but instead supposedly looking out for the good of the sport.
I guess I'm just naive - I would have guessed he made less than $5 million.
And what a contrast with being a fantasy commish - one of the most thankless jobs you can ever have.
