On January 13, 2008 Andrew Bynum injured his left knee in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies when teammate Lamar Odom fell into his leg. Bynum was diagnosed with a temporarily dislocated kneecap and bone bruise in his left knee, and was expected to miss the next eight weeks. He did not play again that season.
On January 31, 2009 Andrew Bynum injured his right knee in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies when teammate Kobe Bryant fell into his leg. Bynum was diagnosed with a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee, and is expected to miss the next eight to 12 weeks. That prognosis could potentially keep him out for the rest of the regular season, if it is closer to the 12 weeks than the eight.
What makes it really stink is that, just like last year, Bynum was just hitting his stride when he went down. Bynum had averaged 26 points and 14 boards over the five games leading up to the injury, so it is a shame that he finds himself back at ground zero again.
If the Lakers play the Grizzlies in January of 2010, it may be in Bynum's best interest to stay home sick that day.
