Part of what makes sports so enjoyable are the debates. Most everybody has an opinion on nearly every sports topic under the Sun, and they often feel rather passionate about it. Anything involving voting in particular always seems to spark a great deal of debate and argument in the sports world. Some people like to commend the voters for getting something right, but more often than not, the people who are most vocal are those who think a decision is wrong. Hell hath no fury like a sports fan scorned.

This topic is apt because the Heisman trophy is set to be presented this Saturday, to feed a dash of college football related television to junkies like me who horror at the notion of a Saturday without football. The voting is already done, and those who got a certain amount of votes have been sent to New York City for the presentation. The players selected were three quarterbacks: Sam Bradford from Oklahoma, Colt McCoy of Texas, and reigning Heisman winner Tim Tebow from Florida. One of these three will win the most prestigious trophy in all of college football, and no matter who it is, I will have absolutely no complaint about the result.

This is indeed an odd occurrence in the world of sports. All three of these candidates are more than worthy of winning the Heisman. They all had tremendous years and led their teams to great seasons. However, they are all also very close in my mind. Not one of them really stands head and shoulders above the rest. Last year Darren McFadden had a fine season, but Tebow's season was even better. These three guys are all about even in my book.

So, perhaps for once there will be an award presented that sparks no debate. I'm sure everybody has their Heisman favorite (mine is Bradford) but if either McCoy or Tebow won, I would not be surprised or disappointed. They both deserve it, and their cases can easily be made. It will be nice to sit down and watch the Heisman presentation both truly not knowing who will win it, and also knowing the voters can't screw this one up. Looks like for this year at least college football fans won't have any justification for complaining about who wins the Heisman. Ah well, the BCS always provides us plenty to gripe about.
