It was a tough game to watch as a Giants fan, but here's what I took from it:

• More miscommunication between Eli Manning and the receivers. This was the case last year, and it's shocking they haven't fixed it.

• The defense wasn't that bad. They gave up a big bomb to Calvin Johnson early on a Matt Stafford escape and wore down at the end of the game. In between, they stopped the run and didn't give up big plays. But the unit isn't good enough to hold the fort when the offense turns it over.

• Matthew Stafford played well and looked nimble both in and out of the pocket and during his touchdown run. I'd still like to see him outdoors on the road, but maybe I was wrong about him and the new Joe Lombardi offense.

• Rashad Jennings ran hard against a tough defense, and it's clear he's the three-down back for now.

• Eli Manning is perhaps the least mobile quarterback in the league right now, and with a poor offensive line, he's in a tough spot. Victor Cruz did drop quite a few passes, though.

• Cruz had perhaps the best matchup he'll draw all season and came up small. After his disappearing act last year, I'm concerned.

• Rueben Randle and Andre Williams were a non-factors.

• Larry Donnell caught a touchdown and was involved in the offense, but it's hard to see the upside in that offense.

• Golden Tate caught all six of his targets for 93 yards. My guess is that's a good barometer of his workload going forward, though he won't catch all his targets every week.

• Calvin Johnson saw 11 targets, catching seven for 164 yards and two scores. It should be business as usual despite the switch in coordinators.
