We're heading into the 10th week already for the RotoWire/FanDuel Fantasy Baseball Championship and the weeks are getting shorter to catch up to the top of the pack with six weeks remaining until the championship week.
RotoWire users can get into the action as we've teamed up with FanDuel to run a $10, multi-entry contest exclusively for you every Friday from April 8 to July 15 for cash prizes and entries into the $5,000 championship that will be held on July 22. There are plenty of prizes and entries to be had, so make sure to create your lineups. You can view the rules and enter the contest by clicking here.
It was a big week for the FanDuel player Eaglezzz who hit the jackpot with a blazing total of 283.70 points with only one clunker of his nine players which was Tigers Miguel Cabrera with 9.5. The rest of his lineup had 24.7 points or more including Indians hurler Danny Salazar with 60 points and Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager with 56.1 points.
There is a separate RotoWire expert competition that is taking concurrently with the public competition. James Seltzer (schweppy23) had a big week in the expert competition dominating the competition with a score of 210.40, almost 20 points ahead of Josh Fathollahi (jashfath) for the top score of the week. Seltzer was bolstered by six players who scored 24.7 player or more especially his three outfielders in Padres Matt Kemp, Rangers Nomar Mazara and Reds Adam Duvall who combined for 78.5 points. Those three along with his pitcher Mets Noah Syndergaard's 54 points helped push him to the top. James' big week shot him into the top 10 overall, eighth, while James Anderson (realjranderson) held down first with an overall score of 1,207.50 while Fathollahi is second overall at 1,194.60.
You can check out the full expert leader board here, but here's the current top 10:
1 James Anderson (realjranderson) - 1,207.50
2 Josh Fathollahi (jashfath) - 1,194.60
3 Ken Crites (kencrw) - 1,163.20
4 Joel Bartilotta (joelbartilotta) - 1,137.50
5 Benny Ricciardi (brich11) - 1,108.50
6 Andrew Parr (aparr013) - 1,102.30

10 Derek VanRiper (rotowiredvr) - 1,081.10
Strategy
While there are times where the planets align, you could say that is the case for Friday night's lineup. There is not only one, but two and three top tier pitchers that are slated to toe the hill tonight in Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw, White Sox Chris Sale and Nationals' Stephen Strasburg. All three are $11,100 or more with Kershaw topping it at $13,100, Strasburg next at $12,000 and Sale at $11,100. In addition there is Giants' Johnny Cueto for $10,700 who though will be going up against Kershaw so it makes a tricky play. While Kershaw seems like a lock, he is going up against Cueto so it should be a pitcher's duel. In addition Strasburg only went 5.1 innings and left with a calf injury. Nats' manager Dusty Baker said he will be fine for Friday night, but he still might be a tricky play even though going against a strikeout prone team like the Phillies. Also Sale has only averaged 5.4 innings the last three outings with a mere two strikeouts in his last outing against the Tigers. There might be better options.
NOTE: There was a typo on the FanDuel lineup for Friday night for Dodgers' OF Kike Hernandez who is listed at $220 (a hunch is that somebody missed an extra 0). If you want to go with Kershaw and take a gamble on Hernandez, be my guest (that could give you a shot at Kershaw and extra bucks to pick up a bigger bat). Unfortunately by the time of the deadline 7 p.m. Eastern Time, the Dodgers lineup might not be out and also he's going up against Cueto. Many believe Hernandez will not be in the lineup, but he has had some success against the Giants in AT&T Park where he has hit .320 with a home run, two RBI in 25 at-bats. He has a hit in only four at-bats against Cueto.
Value Picks
C Brian McCann, New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers
FanDuel Price: $3,100
The catching position is one of the toughest to finish out when you fill out your lineup. There are so few good hitters that are catchers that it's gotten to the point that teams just punt the position when it comes to hitting and write down the best defensive player for that spot on the field. McCann has a great history against Tigers' SP Mike Pelfrey with a .795 slugging percentage and 1.340 OPS while smacking two home runs and 10 extra base hits in 43 at-bats against Pelfrey. The one caveat is whether McCann will be in the lineup. For catchers the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) are tricky as managers notoriously sit their starting catcher for one or even two of the days on the weekend.
OF, Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals
FanDuel Price: $3,100
Talk about due, McCutchen is also due to hit one out of the park and Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha could not come at a better time. He might be considered a High Risk/High Reward player, but his salary has dropped to $3,100. It has been 13 games since McCutchen has hit a ball out of the park (at Texas on May 27). He has been a disappointment this season with a .251 batting average, nine home runs, 25 RB and 37 runs, but he has hit Wacha hard in his career. He has a stat line of 545/.583/.864 against the Cards pitcher with a home and three RBI.
OF Lorenzo Cain, Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox
FanDuel Price: $2,800
Cain is a little bit of a slump recently going 1-for-18 n the last five games that he played, but he has a good history against Chris Sale with a 348/.348/.630 along with three home runs and eight RBI in his career against the ChiSox hard thrower. Before the slump Cain though had been white hot going 10-for-21 in the previous five games.
Steer Clear
C Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
FanDuel Price: $2,000
Yes believe it or not Posey is valued at $2,000 down with a few DL catchers like Angels Geovany Soto, Red Sox Ryan Hanigan and Mets Travis d'Arnaud. It sounds enticing especially in the catcher category that is weak and thin. Posey though did not play on Wednesday with a thumb injury and they were off on Thursday. In addition Posey has not fared well (like most of the Giants' lineup) against Clayton Kershaw with a .220 batting average and a.317 slugging percentage. He has smacked a pair of home runs against Kershaw, but that is in 82 at-bats.
High Risk/High Reward
3B Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies vs San Diego Padres
FanDuel Price: $4,300
If there is one Rockie to take, it is Arenado. Arenado has a .350 batting average as well as a .859 OPS and is due to knock one out against Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner. In addition despite playing away from Coors, Arenado was 6-for-15 in the last four games away from the friendly confines of Coors. He came back on Thursday to go 3-for-5 against the Pirates. He last hit a home run five days ago so he is due to go yard.
