After beginning the season with an 0-2 record and a 6.11 ERA, Eovaldi has emerged as a solid starter in the Yankees' rotation. In his last seven starts, the right-hander holds a 2.72 ERA and has earned wins in six consecutive decisions. He also is keeping the ball in the park better than he did to begin the season, allowing three home runs since April 25 after giving up four in his first two starts alone. He's currently sporting a career-high groundball rate of just under 55 percent. To add onto that, Eovaldi is striking out batters at the best rate of his career, as he currently holds a 8.5 K/9 on the season. All these factors point toward the 26-year-old being able to continue his run of strong starts.
His next start comes Friday on the road against the Baltimore Orioles, which might seem like a tough matchup at first glance, but could actually work out alright for Eovaldi. His ERA is better on the road this season than at home, and he's held opposing hitters to a lower batting average away from Yankee Stadium this season. In addition, although the Orioles' lineup packs quite a punch with sluggers like Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo, and Chris Davis, their lineup also strikes out a ton. In fact, Baltimore has the fourth-most strikeouts per game in the American League and seventh-most in all of Major League Baseball, which could help Eovaldi pad his stats and produce plenty of fantasy points whether he's able to garner the win or not. Whether you're looking for a streaming option or a longer-term pitching replacement, Eovaldi is an under-owned commodity who has the potential to heat up along with the summer weather.
