Irving will miss the rest of the season after he was diagnosed Tuesday with a torn ACL after exiting Monday's 122-98 loss to the Kings with a left knee injury,
Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSISThe injury is a devastating one for the 32-year-old guard, who was attempting to will the Mavericks to the postseason following the trade of
Luka Doncic and subsequent long-term injury to
Anthony Davis (thigh). For the remainder of this season, guards like
Spencer Dinwiddie,
Max Christie,
Dante Exum and
Jaden Hardy (ankle) will presumably take on more usage. Given the timeline associated with ACL surgery recoveries, Irving's absence will most likely extend into the 2026 portion of next season.
