Jaden Hardy

Jaden Hardy

22-Year-Old GuardG
Dallas Mavericks
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The 2023-24 season was basically a rinse-and-repeat version of his rookie season with Hardy playing a consistent yet modest role off the bench in Dallas. He ended the campaign with averages of 7.3 points, 1.5 assists and 1.1 three-pointers in 13.5 minutes per game, keeping him outside the top 400 in standard formats. Although he has flashed some upside on the offensive end, Hardy will once again be in an uphill battle for playing time, especially if both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving remain relatively healthy. The arrival of Quentin Grimes also complicates matters for Hardy, as does the return of Spencer Dinwiddie. Hardy still has value in dynasty formats, but as for redraft leagues, it's hard to see him being anything more than a periodical streaming consideration. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Jaden Hardy was born July 5, 2002, in Detroit, Michigan. Jaden's passion for the game grew through his father, Ramsey who played college ball for Tuskegee. Throughout his childhood, Ramsey played a pivotal role in molding Jaden to become the scoring machine that he is today. Eventually, his family moved to Henderson, Nevada where Jaden attended Coronado High School. As a junior, Hardy averaged 30.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, earning Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year. At the end of his high school career, he was a McDonald's All-American and ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the class of 2021 by 247Sports behind Chet Holmgren, Paulo Banchero and Shaedon Sharpe. With scouts comparing his game to Bradley Beal, he received offers from UCLA, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Arizona and Memphis. However, he decided to forego college basketball and take his talents to the G-League where he signed with the NBA G League Ignite. He immediately made an impact averaging 17.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. During the 12 games he participated in, he shot 35.1% from the field, and 26.9% from 3-point range. Hardy was then selected with the 37th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings and traded on draft night to the Dallas Mavericks.

Logs season-high 25 points
GDallas Mavericks
January 10, 2025
Hardy supplied 25 points (10-18 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 0-1 FT), two assists and one steal across 29 minutes during Thursday's 117-111 victory over Portland.
ANALYSIS
Hardy took advantage of Kyrie Irving's (back) absence and posted his best total of the season off the bench. Klay Thompson got off to a cold start, allowing Hardy to step in alongside Spencer Dinwiddie. Hardy didn't meet expectations initially as the roster grew thin, but his performance Thursday proved his ability to make an impact when called upon. He's now logged five consecutive games of double-digit scoring.

The term handcuff is usually used in fantasy football circles, but it works well with a player like Hardy. He's a backup ball-handler in Dallas but is stuck behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. That means he's stuck in a reserve role as long as those guys stay healthy, but he's proven to be productive when those guys are out. In Hardy's five games as a starter last season, he averaged 21.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. It was discouraging to see him shoot 39 percent from the field but attempting 19 shots a night shows just how much they want to utilize him when the studs are out. All of that doesn't really matter for the majority of the season, though, because Hardy averaged just 12.7 minutes in his 43 games coming off the bench. There should be a bump in that number in his sophomore season, but there's almost no route for him to reach fantasy-relevant minutes unless Irving or Doncic misses significant time.
Hardy went to Dallas with the 37th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He opted to play for the G League Ignite rather than attend college last season. He averaged 19.5 points on 38/31/79 shooting, 4.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals in his long campaign. Clearly, shot selection is an issue. Shooting well from the stripe is a good sign regarding his shooting ability, and he did shoot 36.6 percent on catch-and-shoot looks from deep. Either way, crafty dribbling in isolation is his game, so he projects as a microwave scorer at the NBA level - potentially a sixth man. He doesn't have a ton of upside for this season, sitting behind Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie as starters. Hardy will also have to compete with Frank Ntilikina, Tim Hardaway and Josh Green for reserve minutes. That said, Dallas isn't especially deep, so Hardy should have opportunities here and there.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to have bigger role
GDallas Mavericks
January 6, 2025
Hardy is among the Mavericks players who could be in line for a more significant role in the backcourt due to the team's recent injury issues, Luke Adams of HoopsRumors speculates.
ANALYSIS
The Mavericks are missing Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and Dante Exum due to calf, back and wrist injuries, respectively. This means head coach Jason Kidd will have to rely on non-regulars to handle most of the workload in the backcourt. Hardy can play both roles if needed, but he's likely to operate as a combo guard in the second unit, with Spencer Dinwiddie and Quentin Grimes likely to be the starting guards for the time being.
