Risacher was selected by the Hawks with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Risacher boasts a coveted 3-and-D skill set. He's listed at 6-foot-8 with plenty of length and knocked down 39 percent of his attempts from long range last season while playing with French club JL Bourg. Though he's regarded as a versatile defender who can stroke it from three-point land, Risacher's likelihood of living up to the expectations of the No. 1 pick will likely rely on his ability to produce off the dribble. He averaged less than one assist per game in 2023-24 for JL Bourg and had difficulties creating his own shot. In Summer League, he averaged 14.5 points and 2.0 threes on 39/25/43 shooting, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 turnovers in 29.5 minutes, playing in only two games due to a bruised right quad. Considering his No. 1 overall pick status, Risacher has a strong chance to start immediately, but he'll have to beat out the likes of Bogdan Bogdanovic and De'Andre Hunter to secure the spot. Risacher will also have to fight for playing time against Jalen Johnson, a breakout forward last year. The rookie doesn't project as a true top option for the team right out of the gate. Read Past Outlooks
$Signed a two-year, $25.77 million contract with the Hawks in July of 2024. Contract includes $13.83 million team option for 2026-27.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Widely viewed as a prospect who could come off the board in the high-lottery, Risacher is an intriguing blend of size, length and shooting ability. The 19-year-old Frenchman has developed into a knockdown shooter this season, drilling nearly 39 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc and shooting better than 46 percent from the floor, overall. Risacher rebounds well for his position and has plenty of range on the defensive end, though at this stage he's more of a catch-and-shoot threat than a player who can consistently create off the dribble. Risacher is also averaging less than 1.0 assists per game for JL Bourg (France), so playmaking will be an area of focus when it comes to his development. At 6-foot-8 with a rangy wingspan, Risacher has prototypical size for an NBA wing. Shooting is his primary calling card, though he took a massive leap in efficiency this season after hovering around 30 percent from three-point range in 2022-23. He's also a middling free-throw shooter (71.6% FT this season), so Risacher will have to prove that the jump in outside shooting is for real at the NBA level. To reach his ceiling, Risacher will likely need to add some weight to his 200-pound frame, but that's a major concern at this stage in his development. Ideally, Risacher would land with a team that's willing to be patient with his development. He's unlikely to be an instant-impact player in Year 1, but down the road his shooting and decision-making could make him a valuable rotation piece. Risacher may not quite be a true "project" player, but in the immediate future the focus will be on developing his body and rounding out his ballhandling and defensive awareness. While Risacher is not a premier athlete, he moves well laterally and should be able to swing between both forward positions in the NBA. At this stage, he projects as more of a long-term role player, as opposed to a No. 1 or even No. 2 option on a contending team, but that's not a knock on his long-term potential. In terms of his size and skill set, Michael Porter Jr., Cameron Johnson and Kelly Oubre are reasonable NBA comparisons.
Explodes for career-high 33 points
FAtlanta Hawks
November 7, 2024
Risacher contributed 33 points (11-18 FG, 6-10 3Pt, 5-9 FT), seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 121-116 victory over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS Risacher endured a shooting slump in the early stages of the season but has been playing better of late, and he's been improving with each passing game. Things seem to have clicked for him since the start of November, and he has scored in double digits in three straight games. This 33-point output represents a career-best mark for him, and although he's not likely to hover around the 20-point mark in most games, his arrow is certainly trending in the right direction.

ANALYSIS The Hawks know Jalen Johnson and Clint Capela will make up two-thirds of their starting frontcourt at power forward and center, respectively. However, the battle for the starting role at small forward remains wide open. Risacher comes with the pedigree of being the first-overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, but it's unclear if he'll be ready to handle such a responsibility right away.
