Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Vincent Poirier is a native of Clamart, France, and was born in 1993. As a kid, soccer was his passion. An unexpected growth spurt changed his focus to basketball. His father, Eric, died unexpectedly in 2014. Vincent's mother, Anne-Laure, helped Vincent move from France to Boston in the summer of 2019. Vincent has one younger brother, Sebastien, who is 6-foot-7. Knee issues prevented Poirier's brother from playing pro ball. Vincent didn't watch NBA basketball until the 2014-15 season. Follow Poirier on both Instagram and Twitter via @viinze_17p. Before joining the Celtics, Poirier had eight years of experience playing professional ball in Europe. Poirier's professional career began in his native France in 2011-12 playing for the Paris-based Espoirs Levallois team. He played three seasons for Levallois, finishing the 2013-14 season as the top rebounder for the French Pro A league (10.8 rebounds per game). In spring 2014, Poirier signed a three year contract with Paris-Levallois, but he wound up splitting time with Paris-Levallois and Hyeres-Toulon of the Pro B league. In summer 2016, the French big man played briefly for the Orlando Magic's Summer League team before returning to Paris-Levallois for his third season. In 2017, Poirier signed with Baskonia of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. During the 2018-19 season, Poirier led the EuroLeague in rebounding with 8.3 boards per game and earned All-EuroLeague Second-Team honors. He signed with the Celtics ahead of the 2019-20 NBA season.

ANALYSIS
Poirier will continue his career overseas after a rather underwhelming two-year stint in the NBA with the Celtics and 76ers. Over his 32 career games, Poirier averaged 1.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in 5.3 minutes. The 27-year-old is unlikely to pursue a return to the NBA down the road.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
Boston is casting a wide net in an effort to replace the production lost by the departures of Al Horford and Aron Baynes. Enter 25-year-old Frenchman Vincent Poirier, fresh off of two EuroLeague seasons where he averaged 10.1 points, 6.8 boards, 1.0 assist and 0.8 blocks from 22 minutes per game. Scouting reports credit Poirier with a strong pick-and-roll game, which might work well with new star point guard Kemba Walker. In general, Poirier is a good passer, but similar to fellow new Celtic Enes Kanter, he's considered a weak defender. Considering Poirier's modest playing time in the EuroLeague, expect the NBA rookie to see less floor time than fellow European Celtic backup Daniel Theis.
