Despite a strong end to the 2023-24 season, McBride struggled to find a consistent role. However, that could change with Donte DiVincenzo no longer in the picture. The Knicks battled late-season injuries last year, forcing McBride to step up and start nine consecutive games in Jalen Brunson's absence. McBride tallied at least 20 points on four separate occasions over the final month, providing managers with a glimpse of what is possible. When considering the season as a whole, McBride's output was modest, at best, ending as the 242nd-ranked player in standard formats. Not only will the Knicks be healthy heading into the 2024-25 season, but they also added Mikal Bridges, re-signed OG Anunoby and acquired Karl-Anthony Towns in exchange for Julius Randle and DiVincenzo. McBride should be able to hold onto a spot in the rotation but could very well top out at about 18 minutes per game. He is someone to keep an eye on, just in case Tom Thibodeau's tendency to run his starters into the ground results in injuries once again. If and when that time comes, McBride could very well step into a larger role, much like he did down the stretch last year. Read Past Outlooks

2021 Fantasy Outlook
McBride was selected by the Knicks with the 36th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. A relentless defender at the college level, McBride resembles another former West Virginia standout, Jevon Carter, in many ways. Like Carter, McBride is a bit undersized, but he makes up for it with toughness, quickness and athleticism. McBride averaged 15.9 points per game and shot 41.4 percent from three-point range as a sophomore last season, but if he's going to stick in the NBA, it will be because of his defense.

Candidate for starting role
GNew York Knicks
October 21, 2024
McBride is a candidate to enter the starting lineup in case the Knicks want to use Josh Hart as a sixth man, Peter Botte of The New York Post speculates.
ANALYSIS The Knicks coaching staff has yet to decide who will be the fifth starter alongside Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns. Keeping Hart as a sixth man would open the door for McBride to play regularly in the first unit, where he'd be a combo guard alongside Brunson in the backcourt. McBride averaged 18.0 points, 3.9 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game across 16 starts during the 2023-24 regular season.
