Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Kris Murray moved firmly onto the draft radar in 2022-23. Jumping from 9.7 points in his sophomore season to 20.7 points in his junior season, Murray's year-three breakout earned him a spot on First Team All-Big 10 and All-American honors. In addition to his scoring, Murray averaged 7.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 1.0 steals and a 1.33 assist-to-turnover ratio. Murray and his twin brother, Keegan of the Sacramento Kings, were unranked recruits coming out of high school. They then took a gap year at DME Academy to further develop before blossoming at Iowa. Their father, Kenyon Murray, played for Iowa from 1992-1996. Murray has a lanky, athletic frame with a knack for making winning plays. His hustle, rebounding, and reliable defense make him a plug-and-play contributor regardless of system. Most of Murray's offensive game occurs around the basket and beyond the arc. The forward shot 3.5 percent on 6.8 three-point attempts per game. It's a simple yet productive style. Murray profiles as a glue guy and mid-rotation player. In the same way Christian Braun plays quality minutes for Denver in the playoffs, a team could be interested in Murray joining the rotation immediately. A two-way, stretch-four is a coveted need for many teams. Comparing him to his brother is stereotypical but accurate.

October 19, 2024
The Trail Blazers exercised Murray's third-year team option for 2025-26 on Saturday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murray averaged 6.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 21.7 minutes across 62 regular-season appearances, including 29 starts, as a rookie for Portland. The 24-year-old forward is now set to spend at least two more seasons with the team. In 2024-25, Murray will likely receive depth minutes in the Trail Blazers' forward rotation.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After struggling during his first two seasons in college, Murray turned things around last year, averaging 20.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 steals. With his twin brother Keegan already making a name for himself in Sacramento, Kris will look to do the same in Portland after being taken with the 23rd overall pick in the draft. Not unsurprisingly, Murray figures to bring a similar skillset to that of his brother, playing as a floor-spacing forward. However, unlike his brother, it could be difficult for Murray to land a significant role despite the fact the Trail Blazers have one eye on the future. He should feature in the rotation on most nights but will likely be limited to no more than 15 minutes per contest.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Draft option for Warriors?
FFree Agent
June 11, 2023
The Warriors might target Murray with the 19th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Festus Ezeli of NBC Sports Bay Area said on the "Dubs Talk" podcast.
ANALYSIS
The Warriors might be interested in making a move for Keegan Murray's brother, who can also add dynamic offense off the bench, though he's not nearly as polished as his brother, who ended his rookie year as the starting power forward for the Kings. The younger Murray averaged 20.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game during the 2022-23 season with Iowa.
