Murray saw a massive bump in production during his sophomore season as his role skyrocketed. That's the progression you want from a second-year player, averaging 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.8 blocks and 2.4 threes per game. That's a well-rounded stat line from such a young player, and many people believe Murray can get to over three three-pointers a game because we saw his percentage drop from 41 percent as a rookie to 36 percent last year. This is one of the best shooters in the league, and as long as he's playing 35 minutes and taking 15 shots a night, Murray should be one of the league leaders in threes. It's also impressive to see him average nearly a block and steal per game, especially since he's providing 5-6 rebounds as well. The one issue is that Sacramento decided to trade for DeMar DeRozan in the offseason. He'll fill the 30 minutes that Harrison Barnes was playing, but DeRozan's presence will take away shots and usage from everyone else. We don't expect it to hurt Murray too much, though, because the Kings desperately need him to stretch the floor for DeRozan, De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Keegan Mitchell Murray was born in August of 2000 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a teammate of his twin brother, Kris, in high school and college. His father, Kenyon, played college basketball for Iowa. The Murray brothers played high school ball for Prairie High School in Cedar Rapid, Iowa. As a senior, Keegan Murray averaged 20.3 points and 7.2 rebounds and was named Metro Player of the Year. To gain more exposure, Murray spent a postgraduate year at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. That year, he averaged 22.1 points and 7.5 boards and earned most outstanding player honors at the National Prep School Invitational. Murray was a three-star recruit and committed to play collegiately at Iowa. Starting four of 31 appearances as a freshman, Murray averaged 7.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 17.9 minutes. He was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. He saw his role increase as a sophomore (2021-22), starting in all 35 appearances and averaging 23.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 31.9 minutes per game. After his sophomore season, Murray earned the Karl Malone Award and was named Consensus First Team All-American. The powerful forward then declared for the 2022 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the fourth overall pick.

Murray contributed 18 points (7-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT) and nine rebounds in 34 minutes during Thursday's 111-109 win over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS Murray's 18 points were his most since Nov. 24. The 24-year-old guard has struggled with his efficiency from behind the arc this season, converting just 29.9 percent of his 5.5 three-point attempts per contest.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Murray was one of the standouts from the 2022 rookie class. He started in 78 of his 80 appearances and averaged 12.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 29.8 minutes. His efficiency was also impressive for a rookie, posting 45.3/41.1/76.5 shooting splits. His production from the perimeter was particularly noteworthy, as he attempted 6.3 threes per contest. Murray also dominated the 2023 NBA Summer League, indicating that he could be on a path to break out in 2023-24. The Kings' roster is largely unchanged, although they did add the reigning EuroLeague MVP, Sasha Vezenkov, who is expected to come off the bench. This means that Murray should be able to grow into a bigger scoring role and potentially take on secondary playmaking duties. The 2022 No. 4 pick will certainly be behind De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis in the pecking order, but he could see an uptick in his numbers next year. Considering that Murray will likely be selected in the later rounds, the budding star could be a steal at the end of your draft, even if only for his efficiency and consistency.
History dictates that fantasy managers should be inherently skeptical of any player drafted by the Kings, but the early returns on Murray are overwhelmingly positive. In four Summer League games, Murray turned in four 20-point efforts, averaging 23.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 3.5 made threes per contest. As he did at Iowa last season, Murray played within himself and consistently capitalized on fast breaks and advantage situations. The three-point shooting (40% 3PT, 8.8 3PA/G) was especially encouraging for a player who will likely have plenty of open catch-and-shoot looks as a rookie. He'll fall in line behind De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and perhaps one of Harrison Barnes or Kevin Huerter, but if Murray's defensive numbers at the college level (3.2 blocks/steals per game) translate, he could easily threaten for a top-75 fantasy season as a rookie.

League executives are monitoring whether or not Murray could become available via trade, Michael Scotto of Hoopshype reports.
ANALYSIS With the Kings underwhelming to start the season, it's not a surprise to hear that executives are poking around to see if a deal can be made. There's been no indication that the Kings are willing to move Murray, but it's understandable why he's so coveted. Although he's been ice cold from beyond the arc to open the season, Murray is a career 37.4 percent shooter from three-point range and is a versatile defender.
