Jordan Walsh

20-Year-Old ForwardF
Boston Celtics
2024 Fantasy Outlook
As a rookie, the 19-year-old Walsh appeared in 19 games for the Boston Celtics and made 27 appearances for the Maine Celtics. With Boston, he only saw mop-up duty during the Celtics' frequent blowouts and averaged a modest 9.2 minutes per contest. With Maine, Walsh showed flashes of the high-motor Boston hopes will eventually make him rotation-worthy in the Association. In Maine, Walsh averaged 14.7 points, 7.5 boards, 0.9 steals, 0.8 blocks and 2.1 triples over 29.8 minutes per G League contest. He demonstrated high-energy defensive skills, including the ability to guard positions one through four. At 6-foot-7, Walsh's best path to meaningful NBA minutes will be via energetic 3-and-D play. The Celtics are focused on repeating as NBA champions. That probably means Walsh will again spend lots of time in Maine trying to improve on last year's 36.1 percent shooting from three-point range. But, should Boston experience significant injuries, Walsh could earn more meaningful minutes as a reserve. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Jordan Walsh spent his first and only collegiate season playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks. As a freshman, he started in 22 of his 36 appearances and averaged 7.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals. The forward helped lead the Razorbacks to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Before Arkansas, Walsh was a five-star and consensus top-25 recruit out of high school. He played his first three seasons at Faith Family Academy in Dallas, Texas, before transferring to Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, for his senior year. Walsh was selected to play in the 2022 McDonald's All-American Boys Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. Walsh has impressive size and athleticism for a modern-day forward. He has a good feel of when to cut and is a relentless finisher at the rim. His length allows him to bother opponents all over the floor and create turnovers. Walsh's skillset has shades of Jonathan Kuminga and Tari Eason. His elite athleticism and length give him the potential to be a top-tier defender in the NBA. Being one of the younger prospects in the draft, it will likely take time for him to see consistent minutes and be a high-level contributor.

Season-high 19 minutes in blowout
FBoston Celtics
November 5, 2024
Walsh accumulated two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 0-1 FT), four rebounds, one block and two steals over 19 minutes during Monday's 123-93 victory over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
With Jaylen Brown (hip) sidelined and Monday's game turning into a blowout, Walsh was afforded extra run versus the Hawks. The defensive-minded forward is a nice depth piece for the Celtics, but his path to substantial playing time is thoroughly crowded.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Walsh was Boston's only selection from the 2023 Draft. The organization hopes the energetic second-round pick can replace some of the defensive versatility they lost when Grant Williams left for Dallas. Whether Walsh can eventually hit corner threes like Williams is up for debate. At only 19 years of age, there is a wide range of possible outcomes for the 6-foot-7 forward. During his one season at Arkansas, he displayed a high motor that could dominate on the defensive end. But the Razorback's offensive skills are raw, as demonstrated by his 43.3 percent shooting from the field and 71.2 percent from the charity stripe. Expect the Celtics to let Walsh develop his game via many trips to the G League Maine Celtics, especially early in the season. The young forward had a strong Summer League, where he delivered 16.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and one steal in 27 minutes per game over five contests. Walsh signed a four-year deal with the C's, who possess a strong roster, so Boston can be patient with his development.

Wants expanded role in 2024-25
FBoston Celtics
October 21, 2024
Walsh wants to have a bigger role in the Celtics rotation in the 2024-25 season, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe.
ANALYSIS
Walsh stated that he has noticed more trust from his teammates since training camp began, and that should do wonders for his confidence going forward. "Trying to gain the respect of my teammates definitely boosted my confidence a lot more," he said. "Now Payton Pritchard is passing it to me a little bit more, Jayson Tatum is giving me advice, passing to me a little more. So all those things made me feel like I'm really a part of this team and I can help. Those guys believe it, and I believe it." Walsh was limited to just nine appearances and 9.2 minutes per game for the Celtics in the 2023-24 regular season, but he's looking to earn a bigger role in his sophomore year in the league.
