Hawkins came out of the gates firing during his rookie season. From Oct. 30 through Nov. 25, the sharpshooter started nine of 15 appearances and averaged 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 35.5 percent on 8.1 three-point attempts per game. However, the honeymoon was short-lived, as Hawkins quickly reverted to a minor reserve role when the Pelicans returned to full strength. While rumors swirled this offseason about Brandon Ingram's future in New Orleans, Hawkins would face an uphill battle for a leading role even if the veteran is dealt. The Pelicans traded for Dejounte Murray this offseason, so for now, it appears it'll be Murray, Ingram and CJ McCollum in the starting backcourt, with Hawkins, Trey Murphy and Herbert Jones competing for backup minutes. That's a deep and talented group, so Hawkins' fantasy value will be limited to begin Year 2. However, given what Hawkins showed in Year 1, he's certainly someone worth rostering if he's playing 30 minutes a night. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Jordan Hawkins played two collegiate seasons at UConn, where he broke out as a sophomore and helped propel the Huskies to the 2023 National Championship. After appearing in 27 games (four starts) as a freshman and making the Big East All-Freshman team, Hawkins emerged as a regular starter in 2022-23, averaging 16.2 points per game to go with 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.9 made threes (38.8% 3PT). During UConn's run through the NCAA Tournament, Hawkins had back-to-back 20-point efforts in wins over Arkansas (24 points) and Gonzaga (20 points). He drilled three three-pointers in the National Championship Game en route to 16 points and a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team. As a high school prospect, Hawkins was named the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year during his senior season at DeMatha Catholic High School. A consensus four-star recruit, Hawks posted 19.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.9 blocks per game as a senior. Hawkins profiles as a prototypical NBA two-guard who excels as a shooter thanks to his quick release, relentless off-ball movement and impressive mechanics. Hawkins shot nearly 50 percent on spot-up three-pointers as a sophomore at UConn but is plenty comfortable pulling up off the dribble, as well. At this point in his development, he's a shoot-first player, though Hawksins upped his assist rate to 8.2 percent during his sophomore season. More than 63 percent of his field-goal attempts came from beyond the arc, and he drilled at least five three-pointers seven times last season. Defensively, the rangy Hawkins may need to add weight to avoid being hunted in switch situations at the NBA level. Hawkins projects as a first-round pick who could go in the late-lottery. Any NBA team would covet Hawkins' ability to space the floor, and further development could unlock other areas of his offensive game. While he may never project as a plus defender, Hawkins has the athleticism to improve and has all the makings of a future starter at shooting guard in the NBA. At this juncture, Hawkins' skillset is reminiscent of Klay Thompson, Rip Hamilton and Terrence Ross.
ANALYSIS The second-year guard was set for a significant uptick in playing time in a depleted backcourt that's already missing Dejounte Murray (hand) and CJ McCollum (adductor), but he'll instead join New Orleans' growing injury list. Hawkins returned to game action off the bench in Wednesday's loss to Cleveland, though he was rusty in his 19 minutes, going 1-for-7 from the field. With Hawkins sidelined, Brandon Boston should continue starting on the wing alongside Brandon Ingram, though he could move to the bench once Trey Murphy (hamstring) returns to action, possibly as soon as Monday's game versus the Nets.

Set to crack rotation
GNew Orleans Pelicans
October 19, 2024
Hawkins is set to open the 2024-25 season as part of the Pelicans rotation, head coach Willie Green told Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. "Absolutely," said Jenkins when asked about Hawkins' status entering the new season Friday.
ANALYSIS Hawkins made 67 regular-season appearances, including 10 starts, as a rookie in 2023-24 and averaged 7.8 points per game. He seems to have progressed over the course of the offseason, and while he's not ready to handle a starting role yet, it seems he'll have a prominent role as a scoring weapon off the bench in 2024-25. Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum will open the season as the Pelicans' starting backcourt.
