21-Year-Old ForwardF
Indiana Pacers
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Walker made only 33 regular-season appearances as a rookie and averaged 10.3 minutes per game. The mid-season addition of Pascal Siakam made it difficult for Walker to crack the rotation, and that's not expected to change this season. The Pacers made a surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals and are essentially running it back with the same frontcourt rotation - Pascal Siakam, Myles Turner and Aaron Nesmith as starters with Obi Toppin, Isaiah Jackson and Walker as backups. Plus, Bennedict Mathurin is expected to be healthy. There isn't much room for Walker, who'll have to show significant improvements to see more playing time. Given his expected role to open the campaign, there's no reason to draft Walker in standard leagues. However, he has a high enough upside to monitor in deeper leagues and should be targeted if he ever sees 25-plus minutes regularly. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Jarace Walker had an impressive high school career, where he averaged 16.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a senior. He was invited to the 2022 McDonald's All-American Game and the Nike Hoop Summit. The five-star recruit decided to play collegiately at Houston. As a freshman, Walker won AAC Rookie of the Year and was voted to the All-AAC Second Team behind 11.2 points on 47/35/66 shooting, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.23 combined blocks-plus-steals. He posted career marks of 25 points, four threes, 13 rebounds, five assists, six blocks and three steals. Houston was the runner-up in its conference tournament and made it to the third round of the NCAA tournament. Walker's bulkiness mixed with his lateral movement as a forward has made him into one of the best defensive prospects in his class. He's shown the ability to both prevent bigs from bullying him and switch out on the perimeter to cut off ballhandlers. The off-ball instincts are great as well, so he can rack up helpside blocks and jump into passing lanes. Offensively, he showed catch-and-shoot three potential at Houston, which he'll need to utilize if playing next to a traditional big. But Walker's strong from and vertical athleticism still make him an option in the pick-and-roll. When defenses collapse, he often makes the right pass. If Walker reaches his ceiling, there's Defensive Player of the Year potential due to his size, quickness and instincts. He won't be running an offense, but he should be able to play within the flow of almost any system, whether than be as a bulky four or a small-ball five. His vision will really shine on a team where movement and sharing the ball is encouraged for all five players on the floor. Due to his frame, he draws comparisons to Larry Johnson or Corey Maggette, but he may end up playing more like Draymond Green tilted more towards scoring rather than passing.

Best outing of season off bench
FIndiana Pacers
November 6, 2024
Walker chipped in 17 points (7-7 FG, 3-3 3Pt), six rebounds, one block and two steals over 23 minutes during Wednesday's 118-111 victory over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Walker provided a big spark off Indiana's bench in a winning effort, putting forth his best outing of the young season while leading all bench players in Wednesday's contest in scoring and rebounds. Walker set season-high marks in both scoring and rebounds, and he has reached double figures in scoring in two outings this year. Walker has hauled in at least five boards in two straight contests off the bench.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
As a freshman at Houston, Walker won AAC Rookie of the Year and was voted to the All-AAC Second Team behind 11.2 points on 47/35/66 shooting, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.2 combined blocks-plus-steals. Offensively, he showed catch-and-shoot three potential at Houston, but Walker's strong frame and vertical athleticism still make him an option in the pick-and-roll. When defenses collapse, he often makes the right pass. Walker's Summer League was aggressive, averaging 14.3 points on 17.5 shots. His efficiency was horrible, but it's clear there was a directive for him to let it fly -- something he won't be doing in the normal flow of Indiana's offense. His standout trait remains his defense, and he averaged 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks in his 30.1 minutes in summer action. The potential is there for Walker to begin the season as the Pacers' starting power forward, with upside for 30-plus minutes per game.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Working on position change?
FIndiana Pacers
July 7, 2024
Walker is expected to see extended minutes at small forward during the 2024 NBA Summer League, according to Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star. "I feel like playing the three, I'm bigger and longer. I'm usually stronger so I'm probably going to have a smaller, quicker matchup," Walker said.
ANALYSIS
Walker was drafted as a power forward during the 2023 Draft, but since then, the team acquired and extended Pascal Siakam, meaning the position is essentially blocked for years to come. Walker's capacity to adjust and learn a new position will probably determine his future with the franchise, but the Pacers will give him every opportunity to prove that he deserves a spot on the roster.
