After a sub-par rookie season, Bouknight comes into 2022-23 with something to prove. Taken with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft, he was arguably the most disappointing of all the lottery picks. With a new head coach now leading the way, perhaps Bouknight can get off to a fresh start, although based on what we saw last season, managers will want to wait and see before even considering him as a viable fantasy commodity.
One of the top scorers in college basketball a year ago, Bouknight joins a Hornets team that hopes he can provide instant-offense off the bench. The UConn product has the body of a true two-guard, so he'll likely compete with Kelly Oubre and Cody Martin for minutes behind entrenched starter Terry Rozier. As a relatively inefficient scorer at UConn last season, Bouknight will have to prove he can shoot the ball more efficiently -- especially from three. But he should benefit from increased spacing and more talent around him at the NBA level. Even so, Bouknight profiles as a more effective real-life player than fantasy asset, as he doesn't project to provide much outside of points and threes.
