Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Dylan Windler was born in 1996 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Karen Eickman. He attended Perry Meridian High School in his hometown and earned varsity honors all four years. After posting 13.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as a junior, Windler took off in his senior season with state-leading averages of 27.3 points and 10.2 rebounds. In 2014, he played for the Indiana Elite AAU team that won the Adidas Super 64 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Windler also excelled in golf during high school and qualified for the Indiana state championship as a freshman. You can follow him on Twitter (@Dylan_Windler23) and Instagram (@d_win23). Few people would have predicted stardom for Windler after a relatively quiet freshman season. The 6-foot-8 swingman from Indianapolis averaged 4.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18.4 minutes as a reserve for the Bruins. He moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore and topped the 20-point mark three times, including an NIT victory over Georgia. Windler's breakout came as a junior in 2017-18 when he led Belmont with 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. He opened the season with four straight double-doubles and had 15 on the season. His best game came in a win over Morehead State in which he contributed 36 points on a 14-for-17 tally from the field and 20 rebounds. Despite going 15-3 in OVC play, coach Rick Byrd's team was eliminated in the conference tournament by Murray State. Windler would not be denied access to the Big Dance as a senior. He scored 30 points or more nine times, including a career-high 41 points in a win over Morehead State. The Bruins received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after losing to Murray State again in the OVC Tournament. Windler was held to five points in the win over Temple in the first round, but he tallied 35 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Maryland in the Round of 32. Windler was drafted 26th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Windler agreed to a one-year contract Thursday with the Perth Wildcats of Australia's National Basketball League, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
A 2019 first-round pick of the Cavaliers, Windler was slowed by injuries early on his career and has struggled to gain much traction at the NBA level. He bounced around between three teams in 2023-24, appearing in 17 total regular-season games with the Knicks, Lakers and Hawks. When healthy and given extended minutes in the G League, the 27-year-old has proven himself to be a capable perimeter shooter who rebounds well for his size, but he looks like he'll have to prove himself in the NBL before potentially making the jump back to the NBA in 2024-25.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2019
Windler appeared in only 31 games in 2020-21 and scored just 5.2 points per game, reaching double figures only five times. The end to his season was especially disappointing as he failed to reach double figures in any of his final 12 games before undergoing knee surgery in late April. While the Cavaliers may not have the most hyped frontcourt, they do have a lot of depth, and Windler will find it tough to earn meaningful minutes over Isaac Okoro, Cedi Osman and Dean Wade. This will likely keep him from being worthy of a spot on fantasy rosters in most leagues.
While Windler played at a mid-major in Belmont, he was one of the best pure scorers in the nation as a senior and managed to secure a selection onto the All-OVC First Team. He averaged 21.3 points on just 13.6 shots, notably shooting 42.9 percent from three on 7.1 attempts per game. He was also an impressive rebounder for his height of 6-foot-7, grabbing 10.8 boards per contest, and showed off some defensive potential with 1.4 steals. Appearing in six summer league games and seeing 22.8 minutes per contest, Windler averaged 10.7 points on 9.2 shots, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists. It seems Windler's best chance at securing minutes on the Cavaliers this season is at small forward, where he'll be competing with Cedi Osman, Sindarius Thornwell and fellow rookie Kevin Porter. Considering the rebuilding status of the Cavaliers, there's a good chance Windler will see regular run, but it doesn't seem likely that he'll hold standard fantasy league relevance.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Hopes to avoid surgery
FCleveland Cavaliers
November 10, 2022
Windler is dealing with a right ankle injury and is expected to undergo a new treatment with the hope of avoiding surgery, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Windler will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured right ankle and is expected to be in a walking boot for about three weeks after the shot. If everything goes well, he'd start a new treatment plan to help him avoid surgery. Injuries have been a recurring issue for Windler, who missed his entire rookie season and has only played in 81 out of 229 possible games since entering the league.
