Wade recorded several career-high marks in the 2023-24 season, his fifth year in the league with the Cavaliers, including a personal best in minutes per game (20.5), starts (32) and rebounds per game (4.0). However, his scoring was down a bit, and the only reason behind his 32 starts was the fact that the Cavaliers were among the most injury-riddled teams in 2023-24. This upcoming season, however, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen are fully healthy, and when that's the case, Wade's minutes decrease considerably. Even if he makes a spot start from time to time, Wade's backup role on a contending team should be enough to avoid him in most fantasy drafts, even in the deepest formats. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Dean Jackson Wade was born in 1996 in Wichita, Kansas to Jay and Trish Wade. He attended St. John High School in St. John, Kansas and won three state championships while picking up two All-State honors. Wade averaged 21.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, 2.8 assists, and 2.9 steals over his high school career. During his senior campaign, he posted 25.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 3.0 blocks, and 3.9 steals per game. As a result, Wade was named 2018 Mr. Kansas Basketball and Gatorade Kansas Player of the Year. You can follow him on Twitter (@deanwade3232) and Instagram (@deanwade32). Wade was a staple of the Kansas State basketball program from 2015-16 to 2018-19, making 123 starts in 126 games. He started his career by averaging 9.9 points and 5.1 rebounds across 26.4 minutes in his freshman season, getting named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team. Wade posted similar numbers his second season, but his assist total grew to 1.8 per game while his foul total decreased despite more minutes. He averaged a career-high 16.2 PPG in his junior year en route to earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors. The Wildcats made the Elite Eight that year, but Wade was limited to only one NCAA Tournament appearance due to injury. Wade again earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors after averaging 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds in his senior year, but his career was cut short due to a foot injury and he missed the postseason. He went undrafted in 2019 but caught on with the Cavaliers later that summer on a two-way deal.
ANALYSIS Wade will come off the bench in his return from a two-game absence due to an illness. This means the Cavaliers will go with Isaac Okoro at small forward to accompany the regular starting unit of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

Wade finished the 2022-23 season as the 254th-ranked player, averaging 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in 20.3 minutes per game. Given it was his best season as a professional, the bar has been set pretty low when it comes to ongoing expectations. Although he should remain a part of the rotation, the Cavaliers have added some depth during the offseason. Max Strus and Georges Niang have both arrived and are arguably better options than Wade, making him an afterthought in most fantasy leagues.
Despite the Cavaliers trading away several rotational pieces, Wade still could struggle to have an impact again this season. While he has carved out a consistent spot in the lineup, he offers very little in terms of versatility. He ended the 2021-22 season as the 320th ranked player, with averages of 5.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 combined steals and blocks. Having added Donovan Mitchell, the Cavaliers will be pushing hard for wins as they look to secure a high playoff seeding. Wade be a regular part of the rotation again, albeit in a role that offers minimal upside.
In his sophomore season, Wade was able to gain a solid spot in the Cavaliers' rotation, upping his minutes per game from 5.9 to 19.2, while averaging 6.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists. Much of this can be attributed to Kevin Love only being healthy for 25 games. The Kansas State product will likely have a much smaller role in 2021-22 as Cleveland traded for Bulls' forward Lauri Markkanen in late August. Cleveland also added to their frontcourt depth in the draft, selecting USC's big man Evan Mobley with the third overall pick. Wade's role will be limited to sparse minutes off the bench, leaving him unlikely to have fantasy value in most standard leagues.

Coach Kenny Atkinson said Friday that he wants to see Wade do more than catch and shoot this season, Evan Dammarell of FearTheSword.com reports.
ANALYSIS Wade was primarily used as a catch-and-shoot player last season, during which he shot 39.1 percent from deep on 1.5 3PM/G. However, Atkinson said he wants the 27-year-old to be more involved in cutting to the rim as well as using his size to help rack up offensive boards. Wade averaged 5.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 combined steals and blocks across 20.5 minutes per game in 54 regular-season appearances -- including 32 starts -- and he could be in for a larger role next season.
