DaQuan Marquel Jeffries was born on August 30, 1997 in Edmond, Oklahoma. The son of Edward Johnson and Sharonda Jeffries, DaQuan was a four-year letterwinner at Santa Fe High School in Edmond. In 2015, he earned Oklahoma Class 6A All-State honors and was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference. Jeffries helped lead Santa Fe to a runner-up finish at the 2015 Oklahoma State Tournament. Jeffries lists Kawhi Leonard as his favorite NBA player, and Leonard is the reason he wore No. 2 while playing collegiately at Tulsa University. Before Tulsa, Jeffries played the 2015-16 season at Oral Roberts and then spent the 2016-17 season at Western Texas College, a community college in Snyder, Texas. At Oral Roberts, Jeffries appeared in 29 games (7 starts) and averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds over 20.3 minutes per game. In 2016-17, Jeffries led Western Texas to a 22-10 record and averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game on his way to first-team All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference and All-Region V honors. During Jeffries first year at Tulsa, the 6-foot-5 wing posted numbers similar to his lone season at Oral Roberts. But he showed big improvement during his senior 2018-19 season. Jeffries started all 31 games as a senior and averaged 13.0 points, 5.6 boards and 1.5 three-pointers per game. He led Tulsa in points, defensive rebounds (4.3), field goal attempts (8.9), three-pointers, steals (1.0) and blocks (1.2) per game in his senior season. At the end of the season, Jeffries was named to the 2018-19 All-American Athletic Conference Third Team.
