The Bulls were shorthanded at guard for much of last season. Lonzo Ball missed the entire campaign, and injuries limited Zach LaVine to only 25 games. On the bright side, Dosunmu stepped up his production in an expanded role. Dosunmu logged 29.1 minutes per game, which helped him average 12.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 0.9 steals. Dosunmu's biggest improvement came from behind the arc, where he averaged 1.6 made three-pointers and shot 40.3 percent. Dosunmu shot just 31.2 percent on three-pointers the previous season. The Bulls wanted to get younger this past offseason, moving on from DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso. They have tried to part ways with LaVine but have been unable to find a deal to their liking. Coby White is still in the fold after a breakout season of his own, and the Bulls netted Josh Giddey when they traded Caruso to the Thunder. That means even if LaVine were to be dealt at some point, Dosunmu is likely ticketed for another limited role off the bench. Dosunmu is worth a look late in drafts, but he shouldn't be considered as anything more than a bench player in standard-sized fantasy leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Dosunmu was born Jan. 17, 2000 in Chicago, Illinois to Nigerian immigrants. In April of 2018, he was one of 26 high school seniors to participate in the Jordan Brand Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. During his senior high school season, he averaged 25.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.7 steals and led Morgan Park to a second straight IHSA Class 3A Championship. He was a consensus first-team All-State Selection and was a five-star recruit heading into college by Rivals and 247Sports. He also played in the 2018 U18 Americas Championship, where the United States took home the gold medal. Dosunmu played three collegiate seasons for Illinois. He started all 90 of his appearances. As a senior, he won the Bob Cousy (best point guard) Award behind averages of 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.1 steals. He shot 48.8 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from three and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line. His collegiate career highs were 36 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, four steals and two blocks.
First career triple-double
GChicago Bulls
December 6, 2024
Dosunmu closed with 27 points (9-13 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals across 35 minutes during Thursday's 139-124 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS Making his seventh straight start in the absence of Patrick Williams (foot), Dosunmu set season highs in points, rebounds, assists and steals en route to his first career triple-double. Since moving into the starting lineup, Dosunmu has averaged 16.7 points, 5.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 32.1 minutes per game. During that stretch, he's shot 60.5 percent from the field, 73.7 percent from the free-throw line and 42.3 percent from deep. Given Williams' injury history, the Bulls will likely be cautious with the former lottery pick, affording Dosunmu plenty of opportunities to stay hot.

2021
Dosunmu has played a sizeable role for the Bulls in each of his first two seasons and yet has very little to show for it. He played 26.2 minutes per game during the 2022-23 season, averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 0.8 steals, which was good enough for top-230 value in standard leagues. With Lonzo Ball already ruled out for the entire upcoming season due to an ongoing knee issue, Dosunmu should once again be an every-night part of the rotation. However, the Bulls brought in Jevon Carter during the offseason, while Coby White appears to have found his niche. Carter is slated to start on opening night, meaning Dosunmu's playing time could reflect that of a backup, as opposed to a starter. Given he has been unable to put up standard league value, even when afforded substantial playing time, his outlook is far from rosy.
Dosunmu - the No. 38 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft - compiled a better-than-expected rookie campaign. Benefitting the rookie was that Chicago dealt with a myriad of backcourt injuries, including Zach LaVine playing 67 games, Lonzo Ball playing 35 and Alex Caruso playing 41. Those absences allowed Dosunmu to step into an expanded role more often than anticipated. He started 40 of his 77 appearances and averaged 8.8 points, 3.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 combined steals-plus-blocks in 27.4 minutes. Dosunmu's efficiency also impressed. The rookie slashed 52/38/68, resulting in a 59.6 percent true-shooting percentage. He didn't create a ton of those opportunities on his own - 69 percent of his shots were assisted - but that's to be expected given the number of relatively high-usage players on the Bulls like Ball, LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic. Free throw attempts were one of the primary points of concern for Dosunmu who shot just 1.3 freebies per 36 minutes. That wasn't for a lack of effort, however, as he took 41 percent of his shots at the rim - good for the 93rd percentile among players labeled as combo guards. Overall, he ranked 211th in per-game fantasy production. In theory, Dosunmu should improve on that rank, but his path to playing time is complicated when the Bulls are healthy. That said, Dosunmu has earned his way into the starting five to open the season, taking over as the team's starting point guard to open the season with Lonzo Ball set to miss a few months due to a knee injury. Dosunmu's expected fantasy value should jump as a result, though he's still a late-round flier, given that Caruso, Goran Dragic and Coby White are bound to see minutes as well.
Dosunmu was selected by the Bulls with the 38th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard was an electric scorer for the Illini throughout his two seasons. Dosunmu averaged 20.1 points while also adding 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game last year with Illinois. However, he doesn't project as an every-game player for the Bulls since the team is relatively deep at guard.

Creating advantages
GChicago Bulls
November 5, 2024
Dosunmu is blowing by his defender on 39.2 percent of his drives this season, leading all players with at least 50 total drives thus far.
ANALYSIS Dosunmu's ability to punish closeouts and put a defense in rotation is valuable, and he is capitalizing by finishing 65.9 percent of his shots at the rim, which represents an increase from his 62.1 percent mark a season ago. Dosunmu logged 25 points in his first start of the season Monday while Zach LaVine was sidelined with a thigh injury, and Dosunmu profiles as an impactful nightly contributor anytime the Bulls are shorthanded. Prior to LaVine's absence, Dosunmu was averaging just 7.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists on 36.5 percent shooting across 26.7 minutes per game.
