With a 9-foot-2 standing reach, plus great athleticism and ballhandling for his size, Sarr, out of Perth of the NBL, is an enticing prospect. It's easy to see why he went No. 2 overall in the draft. However, he struggled mightily in Summer League, averaging 5.5 points and 0.5 threes on 19/12/50 shooting, 7.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.5 blocks, 0.8 steals and 2.3 turnovers in 29.6 minutes. I'm afraid you read that correctly; Sarr went 9-for-47 shooting as a 7-footer. At the same time, there are just not that many 7-footers that move with his fluidity and have a jumper that looks mechanically sound, and that's before considering his defensive upside. He has the height of a towering center but plays like a perimeter power forward. He wants to run in transition; he wants to take threes; he wants to take mid-range jumpers; he wants to work at the elbow. He often has his mind made up before entering the paint, and he doesn't make any effort to bully into the restricted area. On a positive note, Sarr has passing vision and was relatively active on the offensive glass. Defensively, there was plenty to like in Summer League. He can swat shots at the rim, and players on the wing appear uncomfortable when he's switched onto them. Fantasy-wise, his blocks and steals potential may carry him. Plus, the Wizards are expected to be bad again, which should afford the 19-year-old plenty of minutes and opportunities. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Sarr was born in Bordeaux, France to a family of basketball players. He started playing at four years old, developing well and securing a spot on Real Madrid's cadet youth team for two seasons starting in 2019. Shortly after, in 2021, he moved to the United States and joined the Overtime Elite for two seasons, playing the first with Team Overtime and second with YNG Dreamerz. In 2022-23, he earned second-team All-OTE honors. Gaining steam as a draft prospect, Sarr joined the Australian Basketball League for 2023-24 as a member of the Perth Wildcats, utilizing the NBL's Next Stars program. In 30 appearances, he averaged 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in 18.0 minutes. Sarr stands 7-foot-1, with defense being his standout skill. He moves incredibly well for his size and can guard on the perimeter as well as protect the rim. That size and athleticism makes him an obvious pick-and-roll threat, and he's shown some potential as a ballhandler in transition and passer in the halfcourt. The hope is that he can evolve into more of a shooter, but he went a modest 16-of-58 (28%) from deep last year and 58-of-82 (71%) from the charity stripe. Sarr also has a thin frame, which may create some challenges going up against bulkier centers in the NBA. Sarr's full potential will be reached if he can develop a three-point shot and/or some playmaking potential in addition to his defense. As it stands, he draws comparisons to Evan Mobley. Sarr is too fluid to be compared to someone like Rudy Gobert and not a good enough shooter to be compared to Chet Holmgren. Primarily, he contains the upside to be one of the most impactful defenders in the NBA and should have no problem walking into double-doubles given his athleticism running the break and throwing down dunks.
Woeful shooting Monday
FWashington Wizards
November 12, 2024
Sarr supplied five points (2-9 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 1-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist and two blocks over 28 minutes during Monday's 107-92 loss to the Rockets.
ANALYSIS Sarr continues to make an impact as a defender and rebounder for the Wizards, but at the same time, his scoring woes can't be overlooked. The rookie is averaging 9.2 points per game while shooting an abysmal 33 percent from the field. Fantasy managers will probably continue to trust him given his youth and the growing pains of a rookie year, but his first nine games in the NBA confirm what the scouts acknowledged in the pre-draft process that his offensive game was way behind his defensive contributions.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Praised by Wizards' general manager
FWashington Wizards
September 23, 2024
Wizards general manager Will Dawkins praised Sarr on Tuesday and said fans should be excited about what he might be able to accomplish in his rookie season. "I wouldn't put limitations on it, to be honest with you," Dawkins said about Sarr during an appearance on a Monumental Sports Network podcast. "He'll have his moments throughout the beginning of the year, both negative and positive. But the stuff he can do on the floor long-term, I think you guys will be pretty excited about."
ANALYSIS Sarr was selected with the second overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and even though the big man struggled in the 2024 Summer League, he might be ready to make an impact right out of the gate on a rebuilding Wizards team. It's unclear if he'll play at power forward or center in a long-term scenario, but the Wizards will give Sarr all the playing time he can handle to see what they have in the promising big man.
