Speights spent the 2016-17 campaign as a member of the Clippers, playing a reserve center role behind DeAndre Jordan. Though he averaged just 15.7 minutes, Speights posted 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 44.5 percent from the field and drilling 1.3 threes per game at a 37.2 percent clip. While he occupied 93 percent of his minutes at center last season, he’s still capable of playing some power forward, though will likely struggle to keep up defensively. That may very well have to be the case, however, as the Magic have seemingly cemented their depth at center between Nikola Vucevic and Bismack Biyombo. The power forward slot is much less set in stone, as it mainly consists of Aaron Gordon and rookie Jonathan Issac. Regardless, Speights will probably see around a similar workload heading into next season – possibly a tad less. He’s a high-volume player when he’s on the floor, so his low workload shouldn’t scare Fantasy players off in the way it would with most other option. That said, he’s still probably only worth owning in deeper leagues, as he signed for the veteran minimum, giving the Magic little pressure to hand him significant minutes on an every-game basis.
