Johnson's typically a DNP, however, Jameer Nelson left the game with a hyperextended knee. Johnson and Jason Williams helped fill in for Nelson, who is listed as day-to-day heading into Tuesday's game against Milwaukee.

Johnson proved to be a capable backup last season, starting 12 games when Jameer Nelson was injured. Johnson and Jason Williams will battle for the primary backup point guard position during training camp, with the winner having some fantasy value due to Nelson's injury history.
After spending last season with Atlanta and Sacramento, the veteran point guard is back for his second stint with the Magic. He was signed to be the backup to Nelson, but the Magic have high expectations this season and don't be surprised to see Stan Van Gundy turn to Johnson if Jameer Nelson struggles.
In Johnson's 10-year career, he's never averaged more than 10.0 points and 5.0 assists but he's the kind of veteran that can really help an NBA team by stepping in as a starter if necessary. Unfortunately, the Atlanta roster is getting pretty crowded, so it would not be a surprise to see Johnson get moved before the season starts, particularly if Law plays well in October.
Do not be fooled by Johnson's playoff scoring explosion against the Nets last year. The Mavericks have brought Johnson in as an insurance policy, in case Devin Harris doesn't pass muster as the team's starting point guard. Given that Harris will be given every chance to succeed, Johnson will see a gradual decline in playing time, and in turn, lower numbers across the board.
Johnson's playing time could be in doubt this year, following the addition of Sarunas Jasikevicius. Johnson did a credible job last year caddying for Jamaal Tinsley and stepping up when Tinsley was hurt. He's a little limited, however, by his inability to break down a quick defender and by his lack of outside shooting range. He'll be the primary backup early on, but look for Jasikevicius to eclipse him by season's end.
Johnson is your basic backup point guard. Every once in awhile he'll have a big game, but for the most part you should keep your expectations in check.
