Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
If Haslem does not play up to expectations, Laettner is the man most likely to start in his stead. Laettner has the experience and veteran savvy to play alongside Shaquille O'Neal. Laettner came to Miami mainly because Shaq was here, and he realized the value Shaq adds to his game. Laettner is a little too much of an outside shooter to play the true "fullback" role, but he is much bigger than people seem to remember and can pound with the best of them. Laettner's best chance to see good minutes is to put scoring aside and worry about rebounding and assisting the big man. He should see 20+ minutes a game and should turn into a nice low price acquisition by the organization. Mind you, we don't expect much from the Dukie, but he'll learn his role and play it in an acceptable manner.
Laettner will get some minutes at the power forward position and can also play some center. His fantasy value has dipped in the past couple of seasons and isn't likely to bounce back anytime soon. Expect his best moments in 2003-2004 to be on the ESPN Classic Channel.
