Gray, who was waived by the Pistons in October after a "cardiac episode" sidelined him throughout training camp, is still hopeful for a return to basketball, Mlive reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite being waived by the Pistons, Gray has remained with the team and helps put the big men through drills at practice. The veteran center is doing extensive cardio exercises while undergoing regular testing with hopes to return to the NBA. Gray will continue to rehab at the Pistons' practice facilities, but it remains unclear when or if he'll get the opportunity to play in the NBA again.

Gray split time in his eighth NBA season between the Raptors and Kings. In total, he appeared in 37 games, averaging a modest 1.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10 minutes per game. Gray joined his fifth NBA team this summer, inking a two-year deal with the Pistons. While he will likely be listed as the direct backup to center Andre Drummond, Gray will have a limited role with his new squad, as the Pistons will roll with Greg Monroe, Josh, Smith and a plethora of stretch-four options on the team when Drummond needs a spell. At 7-0, 270, Gray provides a big body and steady defense to bang with other big men in the post, but just like past seasons, his productivity will be too minimal to make much of a fantasy impact.
A willing if limited banger, Gray is firmly behind Jonas Valanciunas on the Raptors' depth chart and could lose minutes to Amir Johnson as well if the team goes with a small lineup more frequently this season. He's purely bench fodder.
The big-bodied center will help mentor Valanciunas in the fine art of banging under the glass, and his minutes and modest numbers should be similar to last year.
A seven-footer weighing in at about 270 pounds. He’ll be throwing his body around quite a bit for the Raptors, an asset they’ve been missing in past seasons. He has decent hands, and he can rebound and block the ball. More than anything else, his main function will be to create ease for players at other positions, not needing to play as much help defence around the rim with Aaron present. He had a very impressive end to last season on New Orleans dropping 12 points in Game 1 of a playoff series versus the Lakers.
ne of the grittiest and hardest-working players on the Hornets, Gray is a seven-foot banger who makes the most out of his limited minutes. He is more known for using his 270-pound frame on defense rather than offense, averaging only 3.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season, and you might remember him shutting down Dwight Howard last season (Howard had only three buckets when matched up against Gray). He's a stingy defender and will look to build on that reputation after receiving a new contract in the offseason. If Okafor continues to disappoint fans in the Big Easy, look for Gray’s minutes to increase.
Gray had a solid start to the year but playing time dwindled dramatically once Miller was in town. He'll be the 11th or 12th man.
Gray, a 2007 second-round draft pick by Chicago, also moved up the depth chart when Wallace was dealt. While his offensive skills are behind Noah's, he did show what he was capable of in the regular-season finale: 19 points and 22 rebounds in 35 minutes. He'll possibly be a regular part of the rotation this year as the backup center, but the Bulls will frequently employ a small lineup, so his minutes won't be plentiful.
The Bulls passed on Spencer Hawes, who would have provided the team with a badly-needed low-post threat, to take Joakim Noah. They're gambling that their selection at No. 49, Pittsburgh's Aaron Gray, will be a second-round steal and back-to-the-basket scorer. Gray has a nice array of low-post moves, can score out to 15 feet and rebounds well. He's got good size for an NBA center, but is not athletic and struggles on defense against more athletic players. He may start the season at the NBDL, but he had a solid summer league season and could get minutes, especially if paired with some of Chicago's better defenders.
