ANALYSIS
A first-round pick in the 2006 draft, Carney last took an NBA court in March of 2011, spending a portion of training camp 2012 with the Heat and this year with the Pelicans. The 29-year-old is unlikely to play a meaningful minute in the league again, as he played just nine games with Antalya BSB of the Turkish Basketball League during the 2012-13 season.

Carney has always been long on talent but little on production, and that trend should continue this year with the Warriors. He relied far too heavily on his three-point shot last year, with 48 percent of his shots coming from three. Unfortunately, he only made 30 percent of those, a number which should serve as a metaphor for Carney’s fantasy value.
Carney returned to the Sixers as a free agent this offseason. He spent his first two years with the Sixers before being shipped to the Timberwolves during the 2008 offseason to create extra cap room so the Sixers could sign Brand in free agency. The Sixers have plenty of depth on the wings; making it unlikely Carney will develop a significant role without someone suffering a major injury.
Carney is a wild card for the T-Wolves this season. While he's down on the depth chart among the perimeter group in the T-Wolves' backcourt, featuring Mike Miller, Corey Brewer and Rashad McCants, Minnesota says they like the athleticism of the 2006 first-round pick and his outside shooting. He's a long shot for playing time, but he could find a way to win minutes in a rebuilding club willing to give younger players a look.
Carney played 17 minutes per game in his rookie season and finished with mediocre numbers. Unless injury strikes to a teammate, we don't see him playing significant minutes with the many young bodies on the 76ers roster.
While this will be Carney's first season in the NBA, he built quite a resume during his time playing for the Memphis Tigers in college. He holds the Memphis record for career three-pointers made (287, 3rd in C-USA history) and finished third in career scoring for the Tigers (1,901 points). The acquisition of Carney was the most notable move made by the Sixers to improve their team defense and athleticism for the upcoming season. Compared by many to Iguodala, Carney is a tremendous athlete with exceptional speed and leaping ability and also comes with a respectable outside shot.
