Troy Scribner

Scribner opened the 2017 season with Triple-A Salt Lake, where he compiled a 4.16 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 97.1 innings (17 starts) before earning a promotion to the bigs. While Scribner appeared to hold his own in his first taste of the majors, posting a 4.18 ERA and 1.14 WHIP, the underlying statistics suggest he was extremely fortunate (7.00 FIP, .161 BABIP, 1.8 K/BB). The 26-year-old served up a problematic 2.7 HR/9 despite throwing more than half of his innings at pitcher-friendly Angel Stadium. It was a relatively small sample size (23.2 innings), but the soft-tossing righty showed little to get excited about. He figures to open 2018 as a swingman, and while he could ultimately step into the rotation if the Angels have similar luck with injuries, Scribner will be better left alone in most leagues.
