2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Roby has the highest upside of any of the handful of pitchers the Cardinals acquired at the 2023 trade deadline. Unfortunately, he's had trouble staying healthy in order to show it off. Roby was dealing with a shoulder injury at the time of the trade, and while he ended that campaign healthy, he wound up missing a large chunk of the 2024 season with more shoulder problems. He wasn't effective when on the bump, either, collecting a 6.57 ERA over 10 starts. Even when including his stint in the Arizona Fall League last offseason, Roby has barely exceeded 100 innings over the last two years combined. He's still just 23 and the upside remains, but health will be his main priority in 2025. Read Past Outlooks
Added to 40-man roster
The Cardinals selected Roby's contract from Double-A Springfield on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Roby was limited to just 38.1 frames in 2024 due to injury and posted a 6.57 ERA in his 10 starts. However, the 23-year-old has displayed terrific stuff when healthy and the Cardinals didn't want to risk losing him in the Rule 5 Draft.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Roby only threw 173 innings over two and a half seasons with the Rangers due to multiple arm injuries, but he has always shown promising stuff when healthy. The Cardinals acquired Roby while he was on the injured list with a shoulder injury at the deadline as part of the return for Jordan Montgomery, and he proceeded to strike out 37 batters in 25.1 innings across Double-A and the Arizona Fall League over the rest of the year. The 6-foot-1 righty has a mid-90s fastball that he controls well and a hammer curveball that already gets plus grades from evaluators. He also throws a slider and a changeup, but those pitches still need some refinement. Roby has never pitched at Triple-A, but his repertoire and command are advanced enough that he could be an option in the big-league rotation this summer. He tallied 72 innings in 2023, so he may be capped in the 130-140 inning range this year.
