Past Fantasy Outlooks

2015
Last season, Hill wasn't able to duplicate the success he had in 2014, as his sinker produced base hits rather than outs and his Triple-A BABIP sky-rocketed by nearly 100 points. The right-hander, who will turn 27 during spring training, possesses a four-pitch arsenal but even when he worked in relief during one of his brief stints in the majors his fastball rarely broke 90 mph, and his off-speed offerings are nothing special. At best, Hill is a versatile pitcher who can fill a variety of roles in a pinch and who keeps the ball down in the strike zone, but his lack of draft pedigree and marginal stuff make him a long shot to hold down a regular spot on a major league roster. The Nationals will have a number of openings on their staff this offseason, both in the rotation and out of the bullpen, but don't expect Hill to emerge with one of them.
Hill had a breakout season at Triple-A, riding his sinker to a 2.81 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a brief cup of coffee in the majors, but don't get too excited here. The 26-year-old right-hander just doesn't have a big-league arsenal. He keeps his fastball down, but at 88-91 mph, he isn't going to overpower anyone with it, and his slider, curve and changeup are all fairly fringy offerings. Hill will likely spend a few seasons on the Nationals' 40-man roster as an emergency arm they can call up when they need a spot starter or long reliever, but barring a sudden and shocking leap forward, he's not going to be someone you need to keep on your fantasy radar.
