Carroll was traded to the Rangers for cash considerations Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Carroll had been outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday and will now pack up and join the Rangers. Carroll, a former third-round pick, hasn't been able to find his game in Triple-A this season, going 2-8 with a 5.55 ERA through 60 innings of work in a combined role both as a reliever and starter. The 31-year-old also gave up three earned runs in three appearances out of the White Sox's bullpen this season. He will likely play out the season as minor league depth.

2015
The White Sox originally did not tender Carroll a contract after the 2014 season, but they brought him back on a minor league deal before spring training. He started the year in the minors, arrived in Chicago in late-April, and then bounced between the two levels several times before finally sticking in September. He had served as a spot starter in 2014, but he was limited to low-leverage relief duty at the major league level in 2015. He could be looking at a long relief role again in 2016.
Carroll finally made his MLB debut in his age-29 season, pitching 129.1 innings, though the accumulation of starts was attributable to the team's lack of starters rather than the sheer quality of his pitching. His fastball generally does not exceed 90 mph, and he did not create enough grounders to allow the defense to help him. The White Sox declined to tender him a contract in December, making Carroll a free agent in the process.
