2020 Fantasy Outlook
Harper was a 29-year-old minor-league journeyman who had never pitched in the majors before a strong showing in spring training surprisingly won him a spot in the Minnesota bullpen. Armed with just an 89-mph fastball, Harper relied on a mix of breaking pitches, including two variations of the curveball -- one being a 60-mph lollipop. He threw a curveball on 60% of his pitches. His deception worked at first as he had a 2.92 ERA with a 9.2 K/9 before the All-Star break. The Twins began to trust him in high-leverage spots. The league appeared to catch up to him later in the season as he had a 5.71 ERA and just a 6.2 K/9 in the second half, which included a brief trip to Triple-A amidst his struggles. Harper may have a hard time winning a spot in Washington's bullpen to begin this season after being traded to the Nationals. He may just end up adding depth at Triple-A.
