Debuts at Triple-A Jacksonville

Bolanos, who signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on April 8, made his organizational debut Friday for Triple-A Jacksonville. He tossed four shutout innings against Nashville, striking out one while scattering two hits and one walk.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old right-hander will give the Marlins some added organizational starting depth while Miami has two members of its season-opening rotation (Trevor Rogers and Johnny Cueto) on the injured list. Bolanos has previously made five big-league starts, but he'll likely be behind at least Triple-A rotation mate Bryan Hoeing for a promotion when the Marlins require a replacement starter for Rogers beginning next week.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
Bolanos began the season with the Padres, but after an unimpressive spring, he was sent to Triple-A. In July, San Diego shipped Bolanos to the Royals along with Franchy Cordero in exchange for Tim Hill. While Bolanos made Kansas City's Opening Day roster, he was demoted to the alternate training site after two appearances, both as the opener. Bolanos throws four pitches, including a 95-mph fastball, so there's still time for him to develop and carve out a major-league career. First things first, he needs to exhibit better control. The Royals have quietly built a stable of young arms and Bolanos' pathway to the majors may be as a reliever, especially since Kansas City's bullpen is a team weakness. Even so, Bolanos is well off the fantasy radar and he has a lot to prove before he's even a blip.
Bolanos may have gotten lost in a sea of Padres' pitching prospects, though it was certainly hard to predict that he'd go on to make his major-league debut in 2019 after spending the entirety of the previous season at High-A Lake Elsinore, where he recorded an unconvincing 5.11 ERA. He improved that number to 2.85 in 10 starts at the same level to open the season and then recorded a 4.23 ERA in 76.2 innings for Double-A Amarillo, apparently a good enough number to earn him a big-league look in September. He looked generally overmatched in three starts and two relief appearances for the Padres, stumbling to a 5.95 ERA and a 13.6% walk rate. He's unlikely to be one of the Padres' top five starting options to begin the year and will probably open the season in Triple-A for the first time. He doesn't have a particularly impressive resume or prospect profile, so his next opportunity may come in relief.
