All good things must come to an end, and that is what happened to Nunez in Baltimore this winter. For the past two-and-a-half seasons, we've enjoyed watching Nunez produce cheap power in the perfect ballpark for his heavy-pull tendencies. Alas, home runs are expensive in arbitration, and the Orioles are still a few years away from contention while stuck with the horrid Chris Davis contract. The club waived him in December, he went unclaimed and Baltimore released him so as to not have to pay his arbitration route. Nunez is now free to negotiate with any club looking for a new DH because he has serious limitations as an everyday defender. The larger issue is there are not many ballparks better suited for him than Camden Yards, but at 27, he's too young to give up on. He won't win you a batting title, but 25 homers in a full season are well within reach depending on the new home zip code.

Could join Tigers

ANALYSIS
It would be something of a surprise if Nunez had to settle for a minor-league contract after posting a 120 wRC+ (the product of a .256/.324/.294 slash line) with 12 homers in 52 games for the Orioles last season. On that same note, however, it was just as surprising when he was non-tendered by the Orioles early in the offseason after passing through waivers unclaimed. It seems the league as a whole is skeptical he can repeat that performance. That skepticism may prove accurate, as he produced a modest 98 wRC+ in his first four years in the league.
